Q: Why are my photos disappearing and being replaced by some other photo totally unrelated?

I have been reorganizing my photos in Photos now that I have migrated from iPhoto.    I have recently noticed that on the thumbnail that a picture that has come from totally somewhere else has replaced it.  I have fixed the library with Command-option when I opened Photos.  Didn't have any effect.  So I restored from my Time Machine.  No help.  Went further back in time to where I was certain everything was OK.  Nothing.

When I click on the thumbnail, the original picture is there, but doesn't show as a thumbnail correctly.  For the one picture I exported it to the desktop and then reimported it to Photos--but that will be a real time consumer.

Why and what should I do?

Now I have just discovered that if I "revert to Original" it fixes the thumbnail.  I had edited a long time ago by changing the orientation; that's all.  Still wonder why it is doing this.

Another possible fix with may retain the edited version is to rotate the thumbnail and then rotate it back.  Give it a try and let us know if it does.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.  I just tried 10 pix and it worked.

Since I had posted this I have been trying all kinds of things.  I was exporting and importing and afraid that by doing that I would lose the picture "that was now" the thumbnail.  So had to find that in my folders/albums. (25,000 pix) Luckily I had narrowed it down with albums and memory!!!

Any idea what causes this?  I noticed that it has done it a lot since last night. It's throughout the Photos.

Sometimes the database gets corrupted during migration.  Why?  We don't know.

Thanks.  Yep--who knows.  I always beat myself up thinking I did something.

I have been working on the pictures all week and the problem never appeared until last night.  I had been making folders, albums, moving stuff around and trying to figure out Photos.  Hmmmm.  Moving on.  Again, thank you so much.
