Q: trouble downloading attachments

i'm unable to download attachments I've received, i can open in the email but not download

    Hello ggsmac,
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. 

    I understand from your post that you are not able to download any email attachments you receive even though you can open it in the email. I know how important it is for you to be able to download your email attachements. I recommend trying to double-click the attachment or selecting File > Save Attachments. The article below has some additional information about email attachments: 

    Use Mail on your Mac

    When you receive an attachment, double-click it to open it. You can also drag attachments out of the email message window, or choose File > Save Attachments.

    I wonder if it could be a gmail thing? I'll explore that....I haven't had these issues before, so I do know how to use the suggestions you made.  I am unable to double click on the image, it does bring up the "view" of the documents
