Q: iOS 10 SMS and iMessage notification issues

Hello all,

Having some issues with SMS and iMessage notification since upgrading to iOS 10. The issue is that sometimes there will be no sound or vibration or anything when I receive a message. I will just happen to pick up the phone and there will be a banner on the lock screen. And before anyone asks, it's not that I've been away from the phone, or I didn't hear it go off...there was just no notification. It's as if the phone was in DND (which it wasn't).

The other thing is, I NEVER get a notification when I am sent an iMessage from a sender that is email address only (such as from a wifi only iPad). In this situation, my phone never plays a sound, never vibrates...but you open up the lock screen and there is a new message banner sitting there...like I said before - just like the phone is in DND...which it is not.

This problem is happening on both mine and my wife's phone. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So here is an update. I believe I may have found a fix to the problem. I used to have my "Send & Receive" in the messages app set up with my phone number and an email address checked off. I unselected the email address and  have now received a notifcation for every message I have received thus far. The sample size is kind of small at the moment but before this change it was 50/50 at best.

I'm having the same issue. No notification sounds for anything. I tried  different stuff including what you just said. Nothing works.

Whats more frustrating is I have an iPad with same ID and same exact settings that is updated to iOS 10 and that has no issue. I get the sound notifications on that. What's the point of having the phone if I don't know when I get a message?

I am having the same problem with my iPhone 7 (iOS10.0.2). Turning off my email from 'Send & Receive' does not fix.

Unacceptable for a phone that costs $750!

Am also having the same problem. No vibrations, no sound, no banners with imessage, and apparently some text messages as well. Apple: please respond and provide a fix to this problem.

Tried a hard reset (multiple times) no luck

Open and closed I message app, signed in and out with apple i.d. (multiple times)  no luck

Do this and it'll fix it.

Go to Settings>Notifications>Messages> and Turn off show in notification center. I just did it and it worked.

    Cheers.

I also have this problem - I'm not sure if it's related to a friends apple watch that I used for a few days then deleted since I decided the paple watch isn't for me.

Not being able to get notification of messages is a pretty massive showstopper - I don't know whether I should start using a different phone since it matters for work.

Turns out for me that the phone was defaulting to "Do not  Disturb," even through multiple restores. I'd never used this function before. i had to make sure it was off in  Its Settings and the 'Launchpad,' (swipe up from very bottom on home screen).

I'm also having this issue. I've contacted support and I feel like they like I'm crazy. I receive calls with sound no problem when the screen is locked, but I'm missing all my text sound notifications. I'm using an iPhone 7 with iOS 10.

I also don't get notifications when I'm playing musics without ear buds. The music never cuts out when someone texts.

Nothing anyone suggested here helps. I've restored, reset, etc.

Same issue here - iOS 10.0.2 (14A456) did not fix it. Called AppleCare yesterday and they "haven't heared about this yet". I really wonder if they read their own support forums…

That's exactly what I said. He also told me there has been no reports of this. Whats strange is just now one of my kids contacted me and it made the sound. Then my other child on a different like texted me and it didn't.

I have no idea what to do!

I'm thinking about upgrading to iOS 10.1 (beta) - perhaps it's fixed in this release…

    Anyone else tried this allready?

Thank you. That worked. I never used "Do not disturb " but for some reason it was enabled. installing 10.0.2 must of enabled this setting.  A moon shows in the front screen if it is enabled. Once I disabled it, all is working.
