Q: twos airplay not starting apple tv

Hey there, i'm unable to start the newest Apple TV with the latest TV OS update when powered down

from iPad or iPhone or Mac using Airplay, it used to 'turn up' and start the HD TV it's attached too when

a stream of video was detected to it - did something change with the latest TV os?

Thanks

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), i7 1.7GHz 8GB RAM 256SSD

Is your network configured with manual IP addresses? Apple TV seems to work best when on DHCP. Try restarting all devices, router first, to see if that improves things.

Try the following steps for the Apple TV 4, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.

    1. Restart the Apple TV (Settings > System > Restart).
    2. Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    3. Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    4. Restart your mobile device.
    5. Reset the Apple TV (Settings > System > Reset > Reset all settings)

Okay, did that, DHCP in use... seems to be a common problem with the latest TV OS, 3rd time I'm resetting.

Not really all that common considering how many Apple TV's are in use.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.

Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.

There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.
