Q: Blown-Out Video Bug on iPad Pro?
I watch a lot of video in apps on my iPad Pro 9.7" and I've noticed something vexing. No matter the source (Netflix, YouTube, Lynda), after a few seconds of watching, highlights in skin tones in the video will gradually get brighter and brighter until it looks as if the video is WAY overexposed. If I tap on the video to bring up controls, the highlights will return to normal and then gradually blow out again in a few seconds.
These are professionally created videos, which are not overexposed (I verified on my Mac and TV). It seems especially bad in talk show scenarios where one head is in view for a long time. I tried screenshotting the issue, but the resulting photos do not show the blown highlights.
I've tried:
- Turning off auto brightness
- Turning off true tone
- Restarting
None of those worked.
This happened on iOS 9 and 10.
