Q: Problem getting 4G with iOS 10

I noticed that since installing iOS 10 on my iPhone 6 makes the connection to 4G more difficult. Before I rarely were connected to 3G, but now that happens too often.

Did you already check for carrier updates?

In London using Three. My iPhone 6 was working always on 4g and VoLTE. No problem with signal at my place.

Now iPhone 7 iOS 10 ...  no more 4g at my place. If  I restart the device I get 4g for a couple of minutes then back to 3g

    Not nice.

    carrier update done

    sim swap done

    reset network setting done

Apple customer service is sending me to replace phone but don't have much hope. what a pain.

Having the very same predicament with Three in North-East England; a couple of weeks ago all was well.

It looks as though resetting the network recalibrates according to your current location; move a couple of miles away, the signal source will change and 4G will disappear, never to return. I've tried it in a few different places.

It was unclear what the source of the issue was; I updated to iOS 10 and then a few days later got an iPhone 7+. But it seems to be the software (I hope). There are no current carrier updates from Three; possibly something is to be included in iOS 10.1 or an earlier update. I suspect a new phone will exhibit the same symptoms (but would appreciate an update).

It’s compromising a non-cheap all-you-need data deal; to get the best out of it one needs 4G.

What’s most disappointing is that this is the sort of thing I left Windows for (now drive a MacBook), the updates that break things. But researching this, I find it’s happened with every single major update since 4G became a thing. Poor show. In passing, the phone notifications are a bit rubbish at updating too (hello Windows Mobile?), but that I can live with for now.

Good tip, but my carrier send out those automatically. And I called them and notified them about the problem but with no help. It's back to Apple now. My phone isn't feeling very healthy (battery) since iOS 10.

A tentatively hopeful addendum: I installed the public beta of iOS 10.1, which appears to have resolved the problem. As this will probably be officially released in a couple of weeks, there may be no need to muck about with beta software (not recommending that); but some patience is required   As ever,
