Q: 1 timecapsule - 2 macs - one of them won't backup anymore

Hi

I have a iMac and a Macbook Air - both backed up fine to the timecapsule.  for whatever reason my Macbook Air can no longer find the disk on the timecapsule.

I tried to correct it by launching time machine on my macbook air and selected the appropriate disk. It prompts me for a password -- entering it generates a connection error with osstatus 5.

I recently upgraded to sierra (on both the iMac and Macbook Air) but this issue occurred prior to that and not related to Sierra. The timecapsule has the most recent firmware.  The iMac continues to backup without any issues.

How can I get my macbook air to backup again?

Thanks

Dean

On the MacBook Air, try the following:

    • Hold down the Option key, and then, click on the Time Machine icon on the OS X menu bar.
    • Select the "Verify Backups" option and let it run through completion.

This alone may just remedy the issue.

Thank you Tesserax!  these steps still didn't get me past the connection error.

I noticed a restore factory settings option on the airport utility (base station). that seemed to solve the issue.

I have no idea what caused the issue in the first place since I didn't change any settings - but glad it works now.

    Cheers
