Q: Windows 10 now does not detect iphone 5s

I am running iTunes 12.5.1.21 on Windows 10 home v1607, with the latest updates from MicroSoft, iPhone running iOS 9.3.5 .

When I plug my iPhone 5S via USB to the PC, the PC detects the phone (I get a sound when I plug in and unplug)  but does not make it visible to either iTunes, File Explorer or the Phone Companion App. This has all worked prior to the latest patches from MS .

In  Windows device manager the iPhone is visible under other devices, but there is a message in properties which says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

This operation requires an interactive window station.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver."

If I try and update the drives from the directory below:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

I get the following message "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error when trying to install it - Apple Mobile Device USB Driver - This operation requires an interactive window station."

How do I resolve this?
