Q: iOS Update Reminders: Need them GONE!

For a long time I, and others in my family, have been annoyed with the constant pestering reminders to update the iOS. The only options are update now, update tonight, remind me later. SO annoying.

We have several devices and I support the Apple devices for extended family. We keep, some devices on the latest and others not on the latest...system works well.

While I never knowingly accepted an update on a specific device, woke up this morning to find the devices updated!!

Updating should be our choice, and there needs to be a way to stop the never ending reminders....

There are very good reasons to update to the latest version. It is the only version that has all known security vulnerabilities blocked. Virtually every update fixes newly discovered vulnerabilities. Apple doesn't tell you about them specifically to at least partially to protect users who don't update.

There is something odd about your post, however. iOS will automatically download updates, but it requires action on the user's part to install the update after it is downloaded. Specifically you are prompted to install the update, you then must accept the user agreement. Two steps that require user action. So if your devices were updated a user responded to these two dialogs.

Yes, well versed on the solid reasons of keeping the freshest iOS (and so that is in place for some devices). Also need to maintain various iOS versions for other devices.

The action is required to update - yes. I manage family devices... my dad accidentally hit the wrong button and now his device bricked. I must have accidentally hit an update tonight button and woke up w/the updated iOS - against all intention.

The point of the post is to TURN OFF THE BLOODY REMINDERS.

So I have deleted the update from the update log, but that only temporarily stops the reminders yet that is temporary, and just as much of a pia as the reminders themselves when supporting multiple devices for multiple people. Need the reminders to just plain stop.

Apple needs to include the industry standard "Don't remind me again" to the list of choices and stop jamming the Apple preference down our throats.

Apple - in addition I love the communities thread. Initiated this thread through an iPhone. Oddly, however, I was unable to respond in any way to the thread until returning to desktop computer.

That is a continuing embarrassment, although normally I can respond to a thread from iOS, but odd things happen, like the first two letters of the first sentence are doubled or upper-cased. By way of explanation (not excuse), the forum runs on an older 3rd party support forum platform, and Apple has little control over how it works. It's also the world's largest support forum, and there are no other products on the market that could do even this well. I have it on good authority that there are efforts underway to make it a "Responsive" site (meaning that it adapts to the viewing device), but I have no idea when that will actually happen. I won't go into the long list of other bugs in it, but if you use it for long you will encounter them. The good news is that all of them are annoying rather than critical.
