Q: Major iOS 10 Stability Issues

I have an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air. Both devices are having the same problems.

I'm having numerous issues with applications crashing and more importantly the devices constantly are entering into a soft reboot state where the phone appears to restart all of it's processes showing me the spinning circle for a few seconds. There is no method to how this happens, sometimes I'm just writing a message or going to a website. I could be browsing a map or scrolling through Instagram and the phone will just restart.

I have tried doing a full DFU restore thinking that would solve the problem and it didn't. I'm running the latest version of iOS 10.

Is anyone else having issues like this and do you have any idea of how to fix it?

I have very similar issues with our iPhone 6. We have updated to iOS 10.0.2 and now the iPhone 6 just switches itself off (as if you were doing a hard restart) and then tries to restart itself. The restart then seems to stick on cellular rather than Wi Fi. The serious part of this all is you don't realize the phone has switched itself off until to go to use it. We have just had our daughter on the phone saying she couldn't get any reply until luckily I noticed the phone had switched itself self off again.

    To both:

You could be having hardware problems unrelated to iOS 10. If I were you, I'd take the phone to an Apple Store or authorized service provider in order to have the phone tested to see if there is a hardware problem.

I would think that if this behavior was happening on just one device it would be normal to think it could be a hardware problem, but seeing as I had absolutely no problems on either the iPhone or iPad when running iOS 9 and immediately had problems following the iOS 10 update on both devices it makes me think that there is a software problem at hand.

As very few have reported major problems with iOS and you have already restored the software, the only thing to rule out is a hardware problem, which you do by running proper diagnostic tests at a Genius Bar or authorized servic provider.

I Have the same problem with my iPhone 6. Randomly restarts. When I asked at the genius bar about it I was told that it was probably just an iOS 10 bug and it would be fixed in the next patch. Of course if they are just going to tell people that and not report it I don't know how it would get fixed, especially if people coming on here are then told it's a hardware problem

Considering that most everyone has upgraded with no problems, "an (iOS 10) software bug" is probably NOT the problem. Perhaps there is some other problem with some other incompatible app that you are running.

Did the Genius do a hardware test?

I have a similar issue, I have a new iPhone 6S which had been working fine until I did the upgrade to 10.0.2 and now when I pull my locked phone out of my pocket it has been soft rebooting, it has occurred multiple times.

I haven't had a chance to take my devices to the Apple store  yet, but as Kevinp99 says it's absolutely a soft reboot. Yesterday I was in the airport on a phone call when the soft reboot happened, interestingly enough the phone call actually stayed up through the reboot.

I'm hoping to get some time over the next few days to take the device in, unfortunately my Apple Care expired a few weeks back so who knows how this problem will be resolved.

I was able to make it to the Genius Bar yesterday at an Apple store and they found no problems with the hardware. What was interesting is that the system had 4 unexpected restarts registered, however they had no diagnostic information beyond that.

The only thing they could recommend doing was trying to restore my phone again and start with a new image not backed up on iCloud.

When you DFU restored, did you subsequently restore from a backup? If so the software could be corrupted and therefore the backup could also be corrupted and that is why you are having problems.

Try restoring AS NEW and NOT from a backup and see if that solves your problems. You can then redownload fresh copies of your apps and resynch your digital content using iTunes.

Same problem with my iPad Pro 9.7" on iOS 10.0.2, soft restart at least twice a day.

DIagnostic log shows tons of jetsam events with bug 298, not always accompanied by a restart but every

restart has such an event at exactly the same time.

Today it happened for the first time on my iPhone 6.... Really disappointing

I also have this problem since updating to 10.0.2.  And I have had several times when a box comes up asking me to enter a log message or something saying what was wrong? or what happened?  I have never had this problem before and never seen this box.  Next time I will do a screen shot as I can't find it on my phone where those logs are going.  I will be making a genius bar appointment as soon as I can.  So frustrating!

No, but if you look to Will_ling13's answer below, you will see it is indeed a known software issue and should be fixed in 10.1.
