Q: iPhone Battery Draining Rapidly

My iPhone 6's battery goes down 1% every ~15 seconds. After 67% it just like gives up and goes all the way down to 20%. At first, I thought it was the beta so I restored it to the latest public update (10.0.2) I have restored my iPhone 2 times now and my battery is still draining like crazy. I don't think it is a battery issue as it turns off whenever it wants. I have noticed something odd though. Every time I try to soft reset it, A distorted glitchy screen pops up before it turns off. Every time I do this it changes color (red, grey, green). Please help as it is impossible to use my iPhone for more than 3 hours.

    Hello mannycavs123,

Thanks for bringing up your iPhone battery questions here in the
Apple Support Communities. I understand how important it is to have power and portability. I will be more than happy to offer some things for you to check.

The first thing we want to ensure is that all your data on your device is safe. You may have a backup, but please make a recent one before starting troubleshooting. You can make a backup in iCloud or iTunes using this article : How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Once you know your data is safe, I recommend checking two things that may help extend your battery life. First is called Wi-Fi Assist. When you experience times of low signal strength while connected to a wireless network, this feature allows your device to jump to the cellular signal so your data is not interrupted. With the signal switching, you will use more more data, and depending on your cellular signal, this can also use more battery life. This help article talks about Wi-Fi Assist: About Wi-Fi Assist. I personally am in an area of great wireless signal most days, so I have this setting turned off. It may help increase the battery life as you are looking to do.

The second recommendation I can offer is to disable any apps form using cellular that you absolutely do not need. This help article discusses this: About cellular data settings and usage on your iPhone and iPad. For example, I do not personally believe I have ever used the Compass. I disable this from accessing cellular data. Since it needs to transmit and receive data to maintain the data for when you open it, this will use more cellular data. Anything using more cellular data or signal, will cost more battery life. The best part of this is, if I am in an area without a wireless network and suddenly need my compass, I can go back to these settings and enable it again. This is why I personally have most of these apps disabled except things like the Phone, Messages, Mail, Maps, and whatever else I need to use daily, even if I am off a wireless network. Doing this may also increase your battery life.

Additionally, you can take a look at what apps are using the most of your battery power, and adjust usage accordingly.  Take a look at this link for more information:

Thanks again for checking out the Apple Support Communities and have a great rest of your day.

The problem is the new Messages app with all the digital things it can do. If you look in Setting  then Battery it will show you what is draining your battery., My messages app is at 60% an d the next thing is 11%. I have been reading posts for the last hour on the Messages app with all the new features is a battery drain. And there is no way to turn it off. It is not in Background refresh. And the drain part is all in the background. It says so in the Battery part under Messages. Background Activity.

Apple needs to fix this or people will hate it. My phone used to go all day no problem ( iphone 6) Now it lasts about 4-5 hours.

I read to do a hard reset. Power it off and then back on. And dont use the features in the new Messages app. And if you are sent one. Then it will probably happen all over.

Google it. That is how I found out.

    Bummer!! We need this fixed!
