Q: Purchased songs will not play

My purchased songs will play on my iPod Classic

The songs can be seen, but when i click play the song is highlighted in blue and the iPod freezes, then i have to "reset" using the hold switch, menu and centre buttons and wait for the Apple logo to appear. I can then return to play any songs apart from my purchased ones.

I sure my iPod has the current software, and also iTunes on my Mac is up to date.

With my iPod connected to the Mac i can see the purchased songs in iTunes on the iPod,but they will not play.

The purchased songs do play on the Mac and iPad

The purchased songs used to play on the iPod prior to transferring additional CD songs from the Mac

Could there be some conflict between the iPod and iTunes stopping these songs playing

Probably not related to the songs being "purchased."  To your iPod, there's no distinction between songs files that are purchased versus songs imported from CD.

Since the songs play from your iTunes library, but the iPod and iTunes cannot play the songs from your iPod, the iPod may have data corruption.  If all songs on the iPod are in your iTunes library, you may want to do a Restore on the iPod using iTunes.  This erases the iPod and sets it up to default "factory" condition.  The Restore button is on iPod's Summary settings screen in iTunes.

After the Restore, the iPod is set to use the Manually manage music and videos setting.  Set it to Sync Music to automatically load your music library like before.
