Q: Photos on macOS Sierra: Peoples Album does not sync with iCloud Photo Library

The Photos Help has just been updated for Sierra, and we finally have it in writing:

https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.2/?lang=en#/phtf5e48489c

Note: People identified in the People album are not synced across devices.

And as far as I can tell, it really does not sync between my Photos Libraries on the MacBook Pros and my iMac.

This is different in the iOS 10 user guide for the iPhone and iPad:

http://help.apple.com/iphone/10/#/iph9c7ee918c

People are synced among devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID.

I wonder, how this is supposed to work, if a Macs and iPhone are synced with iCloud User Library.

None of the faces I named on my iPhone did sync to my Mac.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), macOS Sierra (10.12), 2,8 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB, 1TB

Agree this is a big disappointment. Tagging people is not something I want to have to do more than once. Would love it to be enabled.

It is so frustrating. Yesterday I finished doing the face tagging on my iphone 6. Today I received my iphone 7 and there is no data in the icloud backup. Faces does not appear to sync between ios devices or be backed up!!! I have provided my feedback to Apple already. Back to the start - 25,000 photos to go...

The missing backup of faces on Photos iOS is an added complication. Apple's documentation on iCloud backups does not mention the "People" albums at all.

See:  iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview

    Here’s what iCloud backs up:

    • Purchase history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books.  .........
    • Photos and videos on your iOS devicesHowever, if you turn on iCloud Photo Library on your iOS device (iOS 8.1 or later) or Mac (OS X v10.10.3 or later), your photos and videos are already stored in iCloud, so they aren’t included in your iCloud backup.

It is clear, that the photos and videos themselves are not included in the iCloud backup, if you are using iCloud Photo Library, but what about albums or Faces? The named People are not stored in iCloud Photo Library, so they should be included in the backup.

I'm another person frustrated by this.  I've sent feedback, as suggested.  Hopefully if enough of us do so, Apple might reconsider this change.
