Q: iPhone 7 gps and cell dropping

So, had my new phone for about 4 hours now and have had both GPS and cell service drop at the same time at least 8 times- typically only for about 2 minutes but as I was traveling and using navigation it was very difficult. Anyone else had this problem?

Wifi calling always on means the wifi is stronger than the network connection. If you want to force the phone into wifi call. Turn on airplane mode and turn wifi on independently. Not relying on wifi calling means Verizon network to phone is stronger

I have tried this without success. In my case drops actually increased after changing the settings and resetting network settings etc. Short of a hardware issue (e.g. modified antennas), which would be a mess, I presume a carrier or iOS update will be required to fix this. Given the latest press coverage i hope both apple and vz will come out with a fix soon.

So, I went to the Genius Bar (Phoenix, AZ) to try to exchange my iPhone 7 (256 GB) after almost two weeks of frustration and trying every option out there to fix it. Geniuses (multiple descended upon the conversation) said that it is a problem on Verizon and Sprint.  It is tagged internally at Apple as 'expected behavior' at this point and they told me I'd have to wait a few weeks for Verizon to find the issue and issue a fix.  At this point, I REALLY wanted to try another phone, so I went from there to the Verizon store and insisted on an open box exchange (I had one day left on my 14 day window).  It took some running around to find a store with stock, but I got a new phone.  And the exact same thing is happening on the new phone -- LTE drops to 3G and 1x constantly. GPS drops out (I notice it most in Waze). Same exact behavior. So at this point, I'm convinced it's a carrier issue and I think Verizon (or Sprint if you've got it - they said it seems to be an issue on CDMA networks) will have to figure it out and issue a carrier settings update.  Not much to do but wait.  Ugh. Pretty frustrating that my $850 phone doesn't work as a phone.  For me, the best solution is to set the phone to use LTE for data only until the update comes.

It turns out its a software issue. Apple is working a fix and at least Verizon is also.

A fox my son showed me works well - when u lose connectivity, just force quit the program that caused it. It happens to me on Waze and Pokemon Go - killing the app brings back cell coverage immediately for me.

IM beginning to believe this is now a iOS 10 issue, not an iPhone 7 issue. On my iPad air 2, which is wifi only, I upgraded to iOS 10 and have been having connection trouble ever since. When I stream a video, or play an online game, the video buffers every so often, or the game keeps trying to reconnect.

I have the same problem: the GPS accuracy on my iPhone 7 is really bad.

I used to track my run with Strava with my iPhone 6 and realised it was not working anymore after I get my iPhone 7.

I thought it was the app but noticed other GPS-based apps were not working (Apple Maps, Google Maps, etc.).

Here is a photo of my iPhone 6 (left) compared to my iPhone 7 (right). Same condition (Wi-Fi off), same carrier, same OS version (10.0.2). Look at the horizontal and vertical accuracy, it's as if my iPhone 7 was not receiving any GPS signal (only carriers). I really don't know what's wrong and if it is a software or hardware issue.

I will try to get an appointment at an Apple Store asap.

I had same issue (dropped coverage while using navigation apps).

Verizon wireless finally knows this is an issue.  They said Verizon and Apple working on it.  For now, the solution is to turn off HD Voice (go to Settings --> Cellular --> Cellular Data Options --> Enable LTE --> Data Only)

Once they fix the issue, you can switch back to Voice & Data

I made this change and it worked!  No more dropped coverage while using navigation apps with my new iPhone 7

I don't use LTE / 4G so it is off on my device... the issue seems to be related to something else...

My Verizon iPhone 7 is doing the exact same thing. Traveling down my street alone my phone jumps back and fourth from 3G to LTE. I have to place it in airplane mode to get it to switch back to LTE regularly.

unacceptable paying a premium price and getting a faulty phone or incapable software, just got my one returned today. I like Apple devices but iPhone 7 it's just not what  Apple iPhone should be. I don't see any point to upgrade from iPhone 6 or 6s, even it's a downgrade instead. Who needs water proof, better camera and new Touch ID when your new phone can't connect to the network? , What a shame.

I'm having the same issue.  I had the iphone 7+ and noticed that it A) had bad call quality and B) was dropping signal.  I returned the plus for the regular 7 because I thought it was too big.  Today, I noticed that the signal issue was still there.  While driving a route that I've driven the past 5 years and NEVER had signal drop, it drops out every day in the same spots with the 7 and 7+.  I've used my 4, 4S, 5, 5S, 6 and 6S there and no dropouts.  I'm really hoping this isn't a hardware problem, but the new antennas may just be the culprit.

Adding my name to the list too - Phoenix, AZ on Verizon. Had a 6S prior that worked perfectly, including with voice over LTE on. 7 Plus now and it's dropping to 3G a lot, loss of GPS signal in the car, etc.

I have this problem as well. Verizon 7 Plus Black 128 GB. I'm getting No Service issues where my son's iPhone 6 has 3 bars and where I never had issues with my 6 Plus. GPS drops randomly. I use the Airplane mode trick and that sometimes works after a minute or two. Verizon acts dumbfounded when I tell them about the problem.

Really surprised that this is happening. I've never been disappointed this much with any of my Apple devices before.
