Q: System Preferences is frozen on Network Preferences

I clicked on the WiFi icon at top of screen, then clicked Open Network Preferences...  I got the Network Preferences box for System Preferences, but it was frozen.  I could not do anything.  I can not even get to any other System Preference screens.  I have no idea what I did to cause this.    I have rebooted in Safe Mode to no avail.  I am not savvy enough to mess with a lot of files I am not familiar with.  Please help!!!

Thanks!!!

Any luck with a solve for this?  I'm having this exact same problem with the Network panel and can't access any other System Prefs.

System Preferences Freezes when I go to Network panel

    Something similar happened to me.

My MacBook Pro Retina running El Capitan (10.11.3) behaved normally, except when I opened System Preferences. It would open directly to the Network panel, then would "beach ball".

After many failed attempts at solving this, I finally took it to the Apple Store tonight. It took over an hour, but the Genius Bar techs solved the problem!

Cutting to the chase, a file was corrupt in the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder. El Capitan wouldn't allow the folder to be deleted, but the files inside could be put in the trash. The only file that couldn't be trashed was (I think) com.apple.Boot.plist. The others were trashed, the trash emptied.

After a restart, the problem was gone!

Thank you to the two Genius Bar techs who helped solve this!

I have replied with a cut and paste of the answer that helped me back in April.  It is in the first reply I sent.  It should work for you too.  Good luck.
