Q: Major iOS 10 Stability Issues

I have an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air. Both devices are having the same problems.

I'm having numerous issues with applications crashing and more importantly the devices constantly are entering into a soft reboot state where the phone appears to restart all of it's processes showing me the spinning circle for a few seconds. There is no method to how this happens, sometimes I'm just writing a message or going to a website. I could be browsing a map or scrolling through Instagram and the phone will just restart.

I have tried doing a full DFU restore thinking that would solve the problem and it didn't. I'm running the latest version of iOS 10.

Is anyone else having issues like this and do you have any idea of how to fix it?

iPhone 6, iOS 10.0.2

It only says it is very stable; doesn't address the OPs problems.  My bet is software corruption from the backup, and there is only one way to prove that and that is via a restore as new.

If that fails, then you **could** assume is is a bug in 10.0.2.

That may be indicative of an app not updated (or not properly updated) for iOS 10. I have seen it with one app that acknowledges it has issues with its update to iOS 10. Currently, the apps value to me is such that I'm keeping it.

Indeed, this only started happen with the upgrade to iOS 10.0, then 10.0.1, and now 10.0.2.   Randomly the OS will reboot.  Right in the middle of a streaming app, working on email, gmail, or even in maps.  It is haphazard and random.  This is a MAJOR stability issue for me as I have been cut off from 3 business calls in just the last week.  Hope that we are all complaining about this asap!

    Actually, Will_ling13 said

"We have seen the issues you have put forward primarily in iPhone 6 and any last generation devices which includes your iPad Air."

So it is happening to more than just a few people. I don't know why you have such a problem admitting it is a software problem when Adam already said his hardware checks out fine.

Please read my subsequent posts carefully: as the OP has said that the hardware checks out, the next thing I suggested would be to check for software corruption, and they only way to rule that out is to doing a clean install and not from a backup. The OP was never clear whether he did this or not. And others here have stated that it could be due with incompatible apps.

I don't know why you have such a problem with ruling out possibilities one by one and going step by step instead of jumping to conclusions.

Who are these "most people" to whom you refer? I think the iOS10 update is awful, and have used Product Feedback to complain to Apple.

So you walk into a hospital and you see that 10% of the patients have the flu, does that mean that the rest of the general population has the flu?

I am also getting the regular SW reboot symbol but not losing anything I was working on.

It went during a call but I could still carry on my call.

Happened 4 times in the last hour. I have hard rebooted closed all apps. Still happening.

All this try this and then try that is not helpful if you are not an IT geek of some sort. I am but I paid for something I want it too work. Simples!

Yes, it would be nice if we lived in a perfect world. We don't. So, what are you going to do about it? Sit around and complain? Or try to fix the problem?

Then why are there auto repair shops? Appliance repair services? Why can you buy replacement parts for your appliances? Filters? Windshield wipers?

None of these should exist if you expect everything to work always.

And what have YOU done to troubleshoot your iPhone  "problems"?

Let's play nice everyone. My intention of posting this was to find others who might be having similar issues to see if there was a known fix and if not to make sure Apple knew. Software development is hard, and supporting billions of different devices you have little to no control of makes things even more difficult. Bugs happen.

To bring this back to a technical discussion. The genius bar did inform me that there were no applications seen crashing, so I don't think it's a third party app causing this. I can also have a soft reboot happen when I'm not doing anything besides talking on the phone, or just driving down the road and I'll see it happen.

There is no clear action that triggers it, it just happens. I'm hoping that Apple will identify some fix in a new update, but I guess we'll just have to wait until then. I'm also assuming that this is not the norm, or else the forums would be filled with posts just like this, but that doesn't seem to be the case either.

Exactly.  Same reason I replied to your posting.  I actually spent over an hour on the phone with technical support.  We "tried" resetting all the settings, so as not to disrupt data or apps - and today it has soft rebooted twice.  They have asked me to call back if it is not fixed and they will route it to engineering.  So as you say, this is a systemic issue with the latest iOS, and has a bug that needs to be found and fixed.
