Q: New MacPro has daily kernel panics -  with power reset failure:

Hi,

My week old MacPro (OSX 10.9.5) is constantly getting kernel panics . There "seems" to be two causes -

  • Google chrome - if i use google chrome for more than 5 minutes I'm guaranteed  to get a crash, so I've stopped using chrome.
  • Sleep - when the machine goes to sleeps it crashes .. not 100% reproducible but around one in five times.

I have taken the usually steps with PRAM and disk repair  but no use. It interesting that the crash report below has a rdar id so it could be a known issue.

Any idea on what to do?

Thanks,

Jimmy

    It's defective.

If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

I'm having this same crash and kernel panic with my Late 2013 Mac Pro (running Yosemite), and have been for two months now. Did you get it resolved? Mine is of course out of warranty now. I did online support and they had me uninstall a driver but that didn't seem to really do anything.

Anything you can help me with would be great. You're the first person I've finally found with this same issue and basically identical crash report. If it's a known issue then they totally ignored it when they reviewed my crash reports and system diagnostics.  Also, it seems that I bought mine around the same time as you. The problems didn't start until August of this year for me (2016).

    Thanks.

Your appointment for an evaluation at the genius bar of an Apple store is free, regardless of your warranty status.

A lot has changed since you bought it, and you really ought to get them to check it out with their diagnostics. There have been some service bulletins (just short of a recall) recently.
