Q: IOS 10 mail puts messages threads in seemingly random order

Since the IOS 10 Update email message threads on my iPhone 6+ are in a really weird order. There seems to be no real order to how the messages are displayed once you click on the thread.

The first message in the thread seems to be randomly placed under some of the replies, and occasionally the entire thread will be under one of the replies as if the message breaks were not detected.

I have Enabled the "Most Recent Messages on Top" setting which has meant the last message and your entry point to the thread is at the top (rather than in the middle with this setting disabled), but the message order still has the above quirks.

The issue is the same in my Office 365 mailbox and Hotmail.

OK, finally found something close to what we had before. Better, but not as good. Turn on all 3 thread notes in systems and then go back to your mail and find a thread. The email on top will have an arrow thing right next to the time or date of the email. Press the arrow and the other emails in the thread will drop down below and then you can click on the email you would like in the thread.

completely agree. have switched to outlook, which isn't perfect, but at least not as confusing as mail.

    Solved!

In the main message view a level before where all the messages are in a list with all the details, there is a little double arrow to show it's a threqded message. Tap this little double arrow and it expands the list of messages in the thread to you and manage them easier. Make sure threaded messages and show latest message to the top is switched on in settings for mail and you will be back to being productive with messages again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I had already switched to Outlook, but didn't really want to use multiple email platforms.  This solved the problem.

With all the commotion over it, I cannot believe Apple didn't sent out a notice to tell you about such a significant, high volume use feature change....wait...yes, I can.

    Thank you, again.

I'm still having the issue with the message being all garbled. For example a thread that has several replies back and forth, there's a sentence that i sent randomly placed in the thread as if it's a part of a reply.

Another email with multiple replies back and forth has a reply for today but the 2nd paragraph is from an email several weeks ago randomly placed in the thread.  this is a nightmare.

I'd just like to add my voice to this chain.  This is a terrible move by Apple.  Although I don't have the issue of emails out of order, when clicking on a conversation the next window contains all of the emails open, instead of the list of emails contained in the chain. Once the chain gets long, one has to scroll and scroll to find individual responses. It's confusing and a waste of time.  The workaround that some have suggested--hitting the double-arrow in the higher level (or main) list of emails--is definitely a help, but one might expect that when the individual emails in the conversation appear that they would be demarcated to set them apart from the rest of the list, for example by being indented.

I understand everyone being upset. Change is bad, blah blah blah. But if it's that unworkable for you, then why don't you switch from the iPhone to another phone? Seems like the mail issue has really ruined your Apple experience if you are posting a thread here where users help each other fix issues.

iOS 10 mail update on iPhone 5S is a nightmare! I have over 15 email accounts on my iPhone 5S

each email account has multiple folders to get all the emails organized in iOS 9 which worked well and was easy to manage. Now it's all out in iOS 10 and I need to scroll to find anything and often it puts emails in the wrong folder guessing instead of letting me decide. Can't stand what apple did to mail which functioned well since 2008 with iOS 10 update! It wastes huge amounts of time trying to find mail in folders that I used to be able to access quickly before iOS 10. It's the most unorganized email system for many emlail accounts I have ever seen. Trying to fix it would take me weeks to reorganize years of many email accounts saved emails. That's not including failing getting over /00 emails I need to manage which is why I had a good organized system set up. Apple dropped the ball    on email update in iOS 10 turning it to a pile of poop    No one wants search through!

Yes and No. It does, but if you forget or accidentally touch the email itself, every message is rendered READ, even if there are dozens you've not looked at before.

In a professional environment. with lots of thread participants, this is impossible. Even for personal use, it's still plain stupid.

Hi all , to fix this problem go to "settings" , then "mail" , then "organize by thread" and deactivate the function there so it is not green any longer, i am on ios 10.0.2

Disabling a feature is not a fix.

Hi Greg , I purchased an iphone 7 plus 2 days ago , i hated the way the emails are all together on a thread , i deactivated the feature and it fixed the problem for me.

Not fixed for me and I'm on the latest update. not a word about all this in the readme file for the most recent updates.
