I'm not saying it's not real. What I'm saying is that it's most likely the result of some rare confluence of factors, only one of which might be iOS 10 that calling it an iOS 10 bug is premature.
Ok, fair enough.
But still I can't understand which factors confluenced to get this result. Didn't change anything before and after the upgrade. No new apps, no new ringtones, no new settings.
I select a ringtone for my messages: it just works. I select a ringtone for my incoming calls: it just doesn't.
How can I imagine the problem to be caused by something else than iOS 10?

Factors that could be involved: corrupted data caused by the update (it happens). Some weird interaction with an app not properly updated.
And, for what it's worth, this is a problem that people report sporadically even when they haven't recently done an update. There seem to be a number of different reasons for it. A search of the forums will probably bring up the older threads.

Oct 3, 2016 2:55 PM in response to Tilloneby wobo63,Don't know if this is interesting for anyone of you ... but may be. The very issue happens here - no individual ringtones working. But when I am out of my carrier's network (like abroad) everything works great.
I stayed in Portugal last weekend and all fine. Once back home and within provider's cellular network - same issue back. Very strange to me!

I believe you can only use it twice in a thread.

Oct 4, 2016 7:47 AM in response to Tilloneby iAgata,iPhone 5s, iOS version 10.0.2, Italian.
The ringtone (full song) is there, it is assigned and reassigned. Also newly assigned to a different contact.
It will ONLY ring the general assigned ringtone (another full song).
Really annoying!!

Oct 5, 2016 4:38 AM in response to iAgataby FrateTAC,Same problem here, mia cara Agata!
Seriously, 2 months roll-out of beta program (developer and public) and no one notice fix it???
This bug is present since iOS 10.0 BETA 1 !!!
Where are you Apple? Where are your legendary attention to details? I'm really disappointed...
Waiting for 10.1 for a FINAL solution.
