"Canon is working with Apple to resolve certain compatibility issues between Mac OS X Sierra v10.12 and printer drivers for Canon PIXMA inkjet printers. Every effort is being made to resolve these issues.
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience you may experience. Please refer to our Knowledge Base article on how to print successfully with Mac OS X v10.12."

Oct 3, 2016 12:04 AM in response to Apeiros Bandby William Kucharski,It's not Apple's responsibility; they simply pass on the drivers Canon provides them.
Since Canon does not currently supply drivers for macOS Sierra, you need to ask them when they will be providing support.
Canon, like all developers, has had access to developer builds of macOS Sierra since June, 2016 and should have addressed this issue sometime in the three months before general release.
