Q: Is there a way to sort the User Patches?

I upgraded a few months ago from Garageband 6 and while there's a lot I really like about Logic, one of the  most annoying things is that when you save a custom instrument, it always goes under User Patches, no matter what the instrument type is. So the drum patches are in the same place as synths, guitars, etc.

Is there any way to have them sort by instrument type or in other folders? Because right now it's just a kerfuffled mess.

Thank you!

Yes, there is a way, but you have to move your patches individually. However, this method will put you custom patch in the "Legacy" folder when browsing with Logic.

    Steps:

    1. Locate these folders in your hard drive (doesn't matter if it is HDD or SSD, the paths are the same):

/Users/(your username)/Music/Audio Music Apps/Channel Strip Settings/Instrument/ (this is where the custom instruments are stored)

/Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/Instrument/ (this is where the legacy and other instruments are stored)

    2. Choose the custom instrument you want to move from "/Users/(your username/Music/Audio Music Apps/Channel Strip Settings/Instrument/" and move it to any of the folders stored in "/Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/Instrument/"

    An example:

I have an instrument named coolbass.cst in the first "Instrument" folder and I want to move it where the Synth Basses are stored.

    I really hope this helps.
