Q: iOS 10 mail app move all/trash all

I just upgraded my iPad Air 2 to iOS 10.  It appears as though the 'move all' and 'trash all' functionality has been removed from the mail app.  When I view either of my inboxes (I have both iCloud and gmail accounts) and tap edit, only 'Mark All' is enabled.  'Move' and 'Archive' (gmail) / 'Trash' (iCloud) are both greyed out.

In iOS 9 (still installed on my iPhone), 'Move all' and 'Archive All' (gmail) / 'Trash All' (iCloud) are enabled when I tap Edit from either inbox.

Has Apple removed this functionality in iOS 10 or changed the way it is accomplished?

We iOS people aren't very smart or responsible and need Apple to keep us from accidents.  I'm so glad they up and decide to take precautionary action by removing useful time saving features and feel that wasting my time is no big deal. im totally ok with having to select thousands of emails a year on the off chance of my pooping my pants. I've never pooped my pants before but its worth spending the extra hours a year to avoid rare mistakes. Go Hillary - Go Apple - be responsible for me, take care of me cuz I'm a freaking potential pants pooper.

Apple urgently need to fix this! It's too time consuming. Do they not get emails themselves to understand this. If it's in your bin it means it's already been deleted from elsewhere, so from your bin you the have the opportunity to move it back if it was a mistake or get rid of it.

I've tried this method, it works then about 5 min. later, all emails are back. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, Apple - I'm really going to click on each one of 8300 emails to trash them. How about I go i to an Apple store and let a genius spend a few hours deleting my email?

Tuns out there is a way to delete all messages in the inbox. It's more involved but seems to work. Search on the topic and you can find the way to do it. My new issue is that my Mail icon still shows a la number of emails but they are not there.

I saw that too. However try first to mark them all as read. e.g. Edit->Mark All->Mark as read.  and then use the delete all procedure I outlined in a previous post. That worked for me.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to simply add a warning when a person selects "trash all" that alerts the user that this will in fact delete all their email, and ask them if they wish to continue? If they still chose to continue, then that would be their fault if all their email was "accidently" deleted. To completely remove the function is an awful solution.
