Q: iBook G3 Gemini Tablet

I found an indigo Gemini iBook G3 tablet in a box and was wondering how much it was worth. It is in good condition and is fully functional. I can't find anything on eBay about them so I am assuming they are pretty rare. Would it be possible to get an estimated collector's value?

    At this late of date, most transactions of these vintage + obsolete early Macs

    appear online in auction sites; or in specialty sites, if of high collector quality.

    If your iBook has FireWire ports, it would be the later of the first clamshell

    model G3s and more desired of the two early colors series iBook.

    iBook (FireWire) -- includes Indigo color... (identify by more than case color)

    Introduced    September 2000

    Discontinued    May 2001

    Model Identifier    PowerBook2,2

    Model Number    --

    Order Number    M7721LL/A (Indigo), M7720LL/A (Graphite)

    Wi-Fi    Optional AirPort card (802.11b)

    Bluetooth    None

    Ethernet    10/100BASE-T (RJ-45)

    Modem    56k

    USB    1 - 12 MBit/s

    FireWire    1 - 400 MBit/s

    Display    Composite video output to TV through AV port

    {from http://mactracker.ca free database app}

    A survey of auction activities may be found for more common products

    (not at all conclusive of 'value vs auction' price) -- such as Bivoy...

    http://us.bidvoy.net/iBook_G3_/111422 (all models incl clamshell)

    The everymac.com site shows most all model specification details

    & sometimes (about once or twice a year) shows a conditional value.

    a History: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBook

    {Awhile ago, I looked into their site to see what my 11+ year old iBook G4

    Mid 2005 12-inch 1.33GHz model could be worth. ~ Their value was $48.

    No telling if that meant anything; as mine is near mint w/ new $90. battery.

    And original software install disc media, new unused power adapter, etc.}

    This topic would likely be posted to notebooks> ibook (G3/G4) section.

    Perhaps a community Host may relocate this vintage inquiry there.

    A general search may show an occasional item for sale; a few years ago

    I thought to look; & found two in Canada online, sale by owner. Under $200.

    IF you happened across an as-new example, with box, power adapter, book

    and software kit all with wrappers as-new, then it may bring above average $.

    Once several years ago, I was fairly lucky (+ struck gold) visiting yard & moving sales.

    Good luck & happy trails!

    The Gemini clamshell iBook was a special edition model not made by Apple but instead by Gemini. This was made for those that had special needs, so it became touchscreen and (depending on the model) had Firewire and sold with different colors. These were made in very small numbers, and I have never seen one on eBay or Craigslist with a box. I have seen several being sold by mhd59michal on eBay, but he hasn't sold one in a long time. I think they were selling at the time for about $400-500 with several accessories and different colors. I have just seen a 366 mhz indigo firewire model sell for $50 with the touchscreen broken and with nothing to test it with, so I would say that your model is about $500 collectors value, higher if it's a Lime model. (as eBay usually has prices inflated to compensate for the slice that comes out of each sale into eBay's pocket.) Just my two cents.

    Yes, you are so right.

    Didn't have time to search the web; offline duties were calling...

    The Gemini was an ancient ancestor to the much later ModBook.

    Of the three early clamshell colors iBook G3, best was based on

    the last model Special Edition with its faster CPU, & FireWire.

    • Before there was ModBook... | ZDNet

    Mar 11, 2008 - there was the Gemini Special Edition clamshell iBook. ...
    PPC G3/466 MHz; Mac OS 9; 10GB HDD; 192MB RAM; 12 inch display.
    {this one was for sale on ebay -- with the specification noted above}

    So it was not an actual Apple offering; like the Axiom ModBook. Yet rare.
    Thanks for your contribution & giving better focus on this custom Gemini.
