Q: My apps won't download or update on App Store, what to do?

Hey!

My App Store has not updated any apps automatically for a few weeks, even though I have the "update automatically" setting on. (And no, those updates do not require Wi-Fi to update, my 4G mobile data should've been fine.) Now it has gotten to the point where I can't update any apps even manually. I click the "update" icon and the progress circle shows up but doesn't start increasing. It just stays stuck. How can I fix this?

I'm also unable to download/install any new apps. This happens with all of the apps I've tried to install so it is not app specific issue. I have rebooted my phone, checked my App Store and internet settings, logged out and logged in on my Apple ID. I have also reset my network settings. I have tried downloading with both Wi-Fi and mobile data with apps that do not require Wi-Fi to intall. All multiple times, and over the time period of few days. I don't have any restrictions on.

When I click the "install" button, it just shows the progress circle without the middle square and it stays stuck with no progress. Sometimes the app shows as a white icon on my home screen but not everytime. If it does, I can not directly delete it but I can stop the "installing" on App Store which makes the white icon go away eventually. I have one app that survived installing past the white icon stage but got stuck on "waiting". I may click it but nothing happens.

I have iPhone 6, and 9.3.1 software.

I am really desperate for an answer, please.

iPhone 6, iOS 9.3.1

Try going to Settings > General > Restrictions > and make sure that the iTunes Store, Installing Apps, Deleting Apps, and In-App Purchases are all under the Allow section. Test installing again.

If the above does not work:

Close the App Store completely from the app switcher window by double clicking the Home button and swiping up the App Store preview pane until it disappears from the screen. You may have to look for the  App Store pane by scrawling to the left.

Then sign out of the iTunes Store (in Settings).

Then do a forced restart. Hold down the Home and Wake/Sleep buttons at the same time for about 15-20 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

Then sign back into the iTunes Store.

If neither works you may have a corrupted system and would have to do a Restore. I would restore as New and test the phone as the backup could be corrupted. Make sure to import all your photos and important data first. If the backup is corrupted, restoring it will bring back the corruption.

Thanks for suggestions to this problem which I, too, am experiencing on my iPhone 5S. Google maps became wonky and I deleted it. Now unable to download it from App store. Have confirmed that there's  suffiicient memory. Tried closing app store and forced restart. Same thing still happening-- little download symbol (cloud with downward pointing arrow) blinks and then reappears without the download beginning. What am I doing wrong?? Appreciate any help you can provide.

Finally discovered a work around by plugging iPhone into my laptop. After initial synching, reproductions of iPhone screens appeared on iTunes, I lifted the Google Maps icon onto one of the screens and it downloaded successfully. I then clicked "apply" and it appeared on the phone. Still don't know why I can't download apps directly to iPhone via my wi-fi network...but am relieved to have Google Maps working!

I Also have this same problem on my iPhone 6s and none of your solutions worked at all. Though I could not "sign out of iTunes" in my settings because there was no obvious way to do that and you didn't explain how to do that other than "go to settings" to do it. Well I went everywhere in settings that contalined iTunes and could find no way to sign out of my account.

My iPhone 7 has this same problem. I am very angry in few weeks. My iPhone has data since 2013.

    I’ve tried these all:

    1. Soft Reboot / Hard Reboot (=Force Reboot)
    2. Reset All Settings
    3. Reset network settings
    4. Restored again with backup that I backed up when iOS 9. (This works, but finally has same problem after few days)
    5. Sign out and Sign in Apple ID on AppStore Setting
    6. Sign out and Sign in Apple ID on iCloud Setting
    7. Change my Apple ID to another one
    8. Wi-Fi and LTE
    9. VPN
    10. Update/download my apps with iTunes (This can download, but still can’t works in iPhone)
    11. Close all of apps in app switcher list (double tap of home key)
    12. Checked “Settings > General > Restrictions“ Option (I disabled it)
    13. Close App Store force => Sign out Appstore on Settings => Hard Reboot => Sigin in iTunes Store again
    14. Sync with iTunes and try download apps on iPhone
    15. Make Airplane on and back to off after 20 seconds
    16. Set ‘Automatically’ to Date & Time
    17. Set ‘Manually’ to Date & Time
    18. Storage : My phone has 128GB and 80GB free space. But I tried to free more.

All of them not works. *******!
