Q: Airport for emac

I was just given an eMac by my uncle that is in pristine shape.  However, it appears that neither the 56K modem or Ethernet modem are operational.  I would like to know what Airport card to get for it and where to get is (macsales.com doesn't have it).  Details:

Model:  eMac

CPU:  PowerPC G4 (1.1)

Number of CPUs:  1

CPU Speed:  1.25 GHz

L2 Cache:  512KB

Memory:  256 MB

Bus Speed:  167 Mhz

Serial:  G8426G5VQJ8

It is presently running OS X 10.3.9.  I would also like to boost the memory to its max level.  Additionally, there are pictures on here that my uncle would like (1,000).  I can get about 125 to export from iPhoto before I start getting write Volume errors.

Help!

TIA

If there are write volume errors you need to work out if the errors are on the internal disk or on the destination disk. The simplest test is to try another external disk as the destination. If it has the same errors then I suspect the internal disk is failing & considering the age you probably want to rip out the HD & send it to specialists if the data is important. eMacs have very dangerous components for the cathode ray tube, so you really need to know what you are doing before you open them up.

You can consider file recovery if you have other disks & another way to boot the eMac.

Replace the HD to have it stable before you consider spending cash or time on the RAM or wifi card is my advice, an original disk is 11+ years old now.

Ebay may have airport cards but you may be better off finding a newer USB external dongle that works with that OS X version. Early eMacs only had 802.11.b, later models had 802.11.b/g wifi. Both are slow, b is basically as fast as USB 1.1 if I recall correctly. Many routers don't like supporting b or g devices (or the terrible WEP protocol) so you may have to setup another network depending on what you have for wifi.
