Q: Can I install Airdrop onto my 2009 iMac?
I am trying to upgrade my OSX 10.5.8 on my iMac9,1 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I have installers for both Yosemite and El Captain on my MacBook Pro, but I can't figure out a way to get them to the older iMac. It's current OSX isn't supported by Dropbox, the file is too large to email, even when condensed and I don't have a CD that's large enough. Can Airdrop be installed onto my iMac and would that do the trick?
Thanks for any suggestions.

The short answer to Airdrop: No.
The longer answer: yours can run El Capitan; however, you will need to purchase Snow leopard (10.6) at the Apple store first. Update that and it will allow you to access the app store which is needed to download legitimate copies of the OS.
You cannot install whatever installers you have unless you downloaded them from your app store account as they are associated with/tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them. And, that license is not transferable. So, if it were actually possible to install them without the app store, you would be running pirated copies which will not allow you to update apps or reinstall the OS.
The only way to get to El Capitan is to purchase Snow Leopard and going from there. Make sure you have at least 4 GB of RAM or you will not be very happy with the performance of your Mac.
