Q: after update, my iphone blocked from Iphoto, itunes

After updating my Iphone 5, it can longer interact with Iphoto or Itunes on my Macbook laptop (2008 running OSx 10.6.8). When i open Itunes, the error message reads "Itunes could not connect to the Iphone because an invalid response received from this device". When I start Iphoto, the error says "Photos can not be viewed or imported because the Iphone is blocked with a passcode..." but passcode is turned off. When i plug the Iphone into USB I am prompted to trust/distrust the phone, I choose trust.

iPhone 5, iOS 10.0.2

    Hello CA 22!

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We see from your post that you are having some trouble using your iPhone 5 which has been upgraded to iOS 10 with your Mac which is running Mac OS X 10.6.8.

In order to use your iPhone 5 with iOS 10 with your Mac, you must first download iTunes 12.5.1 which requires Mac OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks or later to install.

Please let us know if this answers your question.

    Kindest Regards.

    Thanks Becky,

so basically I can no longer sync my phone to my laptop unless I upgrade the OS (which would allow me to update Itunes)? Can i revert my Iphone back to previous version of software?

    Thank you

No.  Downgrading the software is not now, and has never been supported.
