Q: CPU usage and Mail Web Content

I have had a problem with macOS Sierra and Safari 10 where the CPU load for any tab was around 140% and the fans whizzing away, this has been resolved by disabling Trusteer Rapport. However I still have a process running "Web Mail Content" running at 199% and the fans loading up every so often. Is this normal (seems a little high) or is there something else I should disable/enable?

Thanks

    Hello danielfromfareham!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!  Your question about your fans running high after upgrading to macOS Sierra is greatly appreciated.  I know if my Mac were to run loudly after upgrading, I'd be concerned too.  It's my pleasure to help in any way I can today.

When running into fan issues, you'll first want to try an SMC reset.  I have an article that will walk you through the steps:

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac

For more information on the fans in your Mac, check out this link:

    Take care.

    Hi

I had the same problem with Mail and Safari both using over 200% (not sure how that's possible?) of the CPU. Resetting the SMC has worked perfectly... thank you

Resetting the SMC solves the problem for 24 hours, then it starts right back up.  Are there any other steps I can try for a more permanent solution?

Yes, that happened with mine too. They suggested checking the hard drive for errors, found some issues which were solved, then reinstalled the OS. So far so good.

    Hi,

This macOS Sierra is totally messed up, I have been trying to fix up this from the very first week but is of no help. Some of the point which could help you are as follows.

1> Force Kill all iCloud / keychain processed, its hogging all CPU as it is getting locked. // Assuming apple bug

2> Force kill all process with "seq".

3> Check if there is any process taking considerable more CPU usage time, and force kill em too.

Only acceptable performance consideration for having high CPU usage is when it goes into indexing which should occur less frequently apart from that all other issue for performance is comping up becoz of Apples inability to fine tune the OS (in my believe). They have big time trouble managing the process management for this OS. I am downgrading soon, macOS Sierra is MacBook killer, better get Windows now. While windows is getting better, Mac following downhill. So disappointed with Apple.
