Q: Photos has ceased responding

My Photos app freezes upon opening, showing the last imported photos. No buttons or options respond, and I must force quite to get out of it.   Can I reinstall the app from time machine, or from some other source?

I am running ElCapitan, ver 10.11.6 on my  2012 Macbook Pro, 8gig, and have been told I have plenty of memory available.  I rebuilt my library with PowerPhotos app.

Yes, I am a newbie, and haven't a clue what to do next.  Help would be appreciated.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

1 - I am not aware that PowerPhotos has a rebuild capability - where did you find that?

2 - you can not reinstall Photos without reinstalling the OS - unless you have a good reason not to I suggest upgrading to OS X Sierra 10.12 and Photos 2.0 - that probably will resolve this and added bug fixes and fatures

Re PowerPhotos-  I just know all my photos have appeared in PowerPhoto apps.

I will try the upgrading.  Thanks.

Yes PowerPhotos can view your photos but I am  not aware that  it can rebuild the Photos library

as always backup prior to any upgrade

    I Reinstalled ElCapitan.

Basically I still can't get a response to my double Click arrow in Photo, and the same in Mail.  I can't figure out how to upgrade to Sierra. I see the pretty pictrue in the store, but there is no response when I try to click.

    SUggestions?

To upgrade to Sierra  backup and then open the App store and click on features - OS X Sierra is in the upper left hand corner - click on download and give it time to download and it will change to install - click on install after it changes
