In many similar threads on this forum it turned out to be that the cable was damaged inside, shorting out some of the connectors. Try with a different cable, preferably new.
Oh, and remember that iOS 7 validates the new Lightning cables on iGadgets to ensure they are within Apple specs. So beware of El Cheapo knockoffs.
