Q: iOS 10 Black Screen Spinning Wheel

Been using iOS 10.0.1 for about a week on an iPhone 6 and it's buggy. The issues below have only occurred since upgrading to iOS 10. Please fix in next release or provide solution.

1. Random black screen with spinning wheel. The upgrade went fine, so not that black screen. But at least daily my phone becomes unresponsive and shows a black screen with spinning wheel. After 5-10 seconds I'm prompted to enter my passcode as if the device has restarted. I'm not the only person experiencing this - and even managed to capture the image below.

2 - I've enabled the 'rest finger to open' option under home screen accessibility, but this doesn't always work. Again, about once a day, resting my finger to open results in me being prompted to press the home button to unlock. Each time this has happened I've checked and confirmed that the 'rest finger to open' option was enabled.

My 5s does the same on 10.0.2 will be working fine and cuts to the data wheel for a few seconds as if it has ran out of battery.  Then I can press the power button and it comes back on at the home screen!  Come on Apple get this sorted out.

I'm sorry it didn't  do the trick for you.   In my case, it's helped immensly. I suppose the problem could still persist, but it hasn't happened since I changed the setting a few days ago.   I hope Apple comes out with a fix for those of y'all that are still having trouble.

This isn't really a solution, it's just restarting the phone - although they did change the button combination which took a little while to figure out.

I got the spinning wheel again while trying to take a picture, like it had died.  Restarted and it worked fine again.

Definitely a software issue that needs to be sorted out.  I also have had an issue with the phone freezing up when trying to press the home button.  Neither the home button or power button work and you just have to wait for it to respond (last time took about 2 minutes).

This just happened to me as well with iPhone 7 running iOS 10.1 (14B55c).  Side button and volume down powered it off, and then it came back online after reboot (while not plugged into the computer).  I was trying to make a phone called while installing updates when this occurred.

Having this same issue on my 6 with iOS 10.0.2

Enough with the planned obsolescence, Apple!

Hey everyone! So I had this same issue. Every time my 6 auto locked or I locked it, I would have to keep pressing the home button to get it to unlock. Backed up my phone on my MBP and then re-installed iOS 10.0.2 -- problem solved! I restored my phone from my back-up and the problem returned shortly after all my apps were re-installed which made me think one of the 200 apps on my phone is causing a problem. I went through one-by-one starting with emoji apps and voila! The app causing this problem was the Emoji Xpress app. Hope everyone has the same luck as I do!

Sorry to say I never had the Emoji Xpress app so it didn't cause my black screen problem.

This condition has been striking at the worst possible time for me.  Today, it delayed me from making an important (time sensitive) phone call.

After trying all the suggestions of resetting/restoring with no luck, my phone (iPhone 6) has officially become unreliable using iOS 10.

I would like to downgrade. Does anyone know how long Apple will continue to support/sign iOS 9?

Iphone 5,  replaced battery and charger port a few months ago,  working fine on Ios9,  upgraded to IOS 10 this week by accident (didn't want to do this, because 9xx was working fine no issues for me, why upgrade).  Now get multiple times per day this same issue-  black screen, spinning wheel, and goes to lock screen when done, like a reboot.

I have this problem too, both with my iPhone 6 Plus and my iPhone 7. I've tried full DFU resets and setting them up as new devices as per the recommendation of "Apple Geniuses", all to no avail.

They also told me that they couldn't find anything in my devices' logs to see what the cause of the springboard crashing and black spinner screen is. I think they just don't know how to look at these logs, I'm sure the answer is in there somewhere.

Is there a problem app, perhaps that is causing this? I'm a heavy user of the Outlook app, so I suspect there might be a memory leak that is causing this?

I Haven't found any correlation whatsoever mine crashes like this mul times per day and doesn't seem to be when I am using any one app. Furthermor, no iOS app should be able to crash the whole user experience such that it punts you out and forcea another touchid Auth. apples got to get this fixed as it's a problem triggering a lock out of the phone, not good.

Considering htis has generated 4 pages of people posting, there must be a load of people hitting it.  in my informal poll, nearly half the people i know who have upgraded are seeing this issue - especially on the iphone 6 plus models.

Personally, i think its a memory issue - i kill off anything in the back stack - i know that many of them are hydrated, but it happens to me less when i have less on there.
