Q: IOS 10 randomly resets

I'm using an iPhone 6+ and I recently updated to iOS 10.

Since the upgrade, my iPhone randomly "quick" restarts.

I'll be using an app and the screen will go black with the white circle spinning in the middle of the screen for about 3-4 seconds and then the phone will be prompting me to enter my unlock code.

It seems random, however, I was able to find a repeatable process which is outlined below:

  • click an in-app purchase
  • Put in Apple password
  • phone prompted me to verify payment
  • go to the payment screen, start entering details, the phone would reset

The time taken to reset using these steps varied, it wasn't always in exactly the same spot and obviously it happens doing other things as well.

I've noted a few other people experiencing similar issues to this doing a quick Google search.

Has anyone found a solution to this?

My next step would be to restore to a previous backup and try the upgrade process again.

    Hi Drakon73!

I see that your iPhone is restarting unexpectedly.  I know it's important to have your iPhone working properly, and I'm happy to help.  Please make sure your iPhone is up to date by going to Settings > General > Software Update, and also make sure that your apps are up to date in the App Store.  You'll see those are both recommended in our support article for this issue.

If your iOS device restarts or displays the Apple logo or a spinning gear unexpectedly

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

    Cheers!

He posted he had upgraded and it started so you tell him to make sure he has latest, which he said he did and that was when this issue started.

I have this issue also, and I have even done the 10.0.2 update and still happens. I have all my apps updated to latest.

Still will get the spinner in various apps, including built in like messages app, just using the phone and boom restart, with spinner. I have even had it happen when phone just on charger playing audio to my bluetooth headphones, and the audio stops I look down and the spinner is going. then I have to unlock and get back into audio program and start listening again.

and the "contact support" link form the article reference takes me to a blank page. so can't contact through that.

this would be hard to take to a genius bar, if not near impossible, as it happens so randomly.

I'm having this issue too. I've already had to restore my iPhone due to CarPlay issues, but this keeps persisting and it's at random times. If we've already made sure our phones are updated and all apps are updated, what else do you suggest doing, Brenden DV?

As was already indicated, the iPhone is completely up to date.

All apps are up to date.

The issue continues to randomly occur.

I have additionally provided a repeatable method to force the issue to occur.

At this stage, I am at the point where I'm going to try a factory reset/restore from backup because this is incredibly frustrating

    Hi Drakon73,

Rather than restoring from a backup, I would restore and set up as new to test it. If the issue is not present, then restore your backup file. If the issue returns after restoring your backup file, you will know that the cause is saved in the backup file and you will then want restore the iPhone again. Then add your content back to the iPhone manually.

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

    Cheers.

Sterling, that would mean we would lose contacts and other content aside from music, right? is there a way to save contact files and restore those manually if we choose to factory reset and start anew?
