For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with third party software.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I installed iTunes 12.5.1 64 bit (using the older video card version) on Win7 and it was crashing every time I tried to access the iTunes Store or Apple Music. The Event Viewer confirmed that C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\webkit.dll was the problem.

I updated my path variable (in Control Panel > System and Security > System then choose Advanced system settings and then choose Environment Variables then edit the Path variable) and added in ";C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" to the end. iTunes now looks for webkit.dll in the "Program Files (x86)" directory and works without crashing.

Also note that if you have issues where iTunes crashes silently on launch then first follow articles to remove all traces of iTunes. If still not working and *** YOU ARE PREPARED TO LOSE YOUR IPHONE BACKUPS *** then be sure to look in your Users AppData Roaming and Local directories and delete all Apple folders that you find there.

Thanks for this. In my case I'm running the all 64-bit version of iTunes so this works in an elevated command prompt:

    SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

and should do so for 32-bit installs too, while this should the same trick with the "for older video cards" build:

    SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

Weirdly iTunes still functions properly if I now restore the original setting of the PATH variable. I also tried using regsvr32 in case the DLL simply needed registering but that didn't want to work.
