Q: macOS Sierra: Finder not responding

Hey,

I am running a Late 2011 MacBook Pro with macOS Sierra (10.12) running. This is a fresh install of the system. Its an i7, 8gb ram, and running a 512 SSD.

The system runs really well, but now and then Finder completely freezes up with many applications refusing to start. When I try to force quit them, everything except the Finder can be quit. Upon trying to relaunch Finder, it simply crashes, and goes into a Not Responding loop.

Another odd thing I saw is that Photos.app now says "Closing library" or something to that effect. Not able to reproduce every single time, but it happens now and then.

My doubts are on my oneDrive syncs running perhaps at the time? - I have both a personal and business account running on them at this time. Apart from, the only other cloud service is iCloud (with iCloud Drive working with the new Desktop and Documents functionality).

At this point, I have had to hard reset the computer to get it running again.

Download EtreCheck from https://etrecheck.com/. This is a nice diagnostic tool that gives you a quick hardware and software diagnostic of your Mac. I found a few issues with Google launch agents and daemons, as well as an old Firewire launch daemon that I was no longer using. I removed those from my Mac. Let's see if this helps...

Here's a summary of what I did. I haven't had to reboot my Mac in the past couple of days.

Hope this helps Mac users with this problem regarding Finder crashes, beachballs, and forced shutdowns and reboots.

After trying all that, my Mac still crashes from time to time. I hope Apple comes up with a fix soon...

The only way to solve this problem was to completely restore my Mac to El Capitan using Time Machine. Hold command-R right when the computer starts to boot, then select Time Machine Recovery. I didn't have too many issues because I didn't have too many "new" files between Sep 20 and now, I just made a copy of those and transferred them back to my Mac after restoring.

I'm glad I did this, because Finder was crashing EVERY TIME after waking up from sleep.

Thank you! That's the exact issue I had and I just tried enabling the same little Siri trick. Turned it off and I'm back in business.

    Thumbs up!

I tried all the things they told in discussion. But nothing works still the problem is there. Apple did a worse thing for their users. They still even give a patch update to resolve this issue. Worst product of apple ever did. Lazy people's got job in apple. Will you won't able to clear this issue then why you give update and product release for your customers man. All are having lot of works in day today life. They are waiting for a while to respond. But apple won't able to respond us. Worst case scenario. Worst customer service and support
