Sierra Preview Blacking Out Diagrams on PDF

When viewing a user manual pdf document some of the diagrams are blacked out. The user manual viewed correctly before Sierra. Downloading a new pdf does not help. The document displays correctly in CS 6. Any fixes?

Any document that has been digitally signed via Docusign is still not viewable when delivered via email or when downloaded directly from Docusign account. It is only viewable by opening in Adobe reader. I do this every day with real estate transactions and this never ever used to happen - ever. It also happens in IOS if trying to view the document in Macmail on your iPhone or iPad. Docusign said they are aware of this glitch since the last OS X and iOS upgrades, which is when I started to experience the issue. Is it Apple or Docusign that is at fault? I don't know and I don't care. As a business owner, I need it to work! By the way, I can see the pdf inside gmail via Google Chrome browser but that's just a tiny view. Documents are all text.

I am also having this issue. Since downloading Sierra it seems that PDF's that were filled in using DocuSign or a similar program, Ziplogix for me, show fine in the thumbnails in gmail and when I download and they are in the Chrome browser. When I open downloaded file in Preview or Adobe Reader it is blank with the exception of the words and signatures that had been filled in with DocuSign. Is there a fix for this yet?

Despite someone on this thread saying it was fixed. It is not fixed. Docusign is aware of the issue and said it was fixing it. That was weeks ago. Perhaps we who pay for Docusign needed to threaten to stop paying and go to Ziplogix. It seems Docusign says it's Apple and Apple says it is working. I would say that Apple needs to make sure they work with Docusign since it is the OS X upgrade that screwed up what was working fine for years!

Hi Mike V's Nano,

I see from your post that your PDF document isn't displaying correctly in Preview for macOS Sierra. I'll be glad to assist.

Since you are noticing this with multiple pdf files and these files seem to be displaying correctly in another app, it sounds like you've isolated this to a problem with Preview specifically. First, open Preview and choose Quit from the app menu in the menu bar, or press Command-Q to close the app. When you re-open Preview, hold down the shift key on your keyboard as you open the program. This will temporarily prevent the app from re-opening its documents and windows. Test to see if you still notice the same issue after performing this step. If you haven't already, try restarting your Mac to see if the problem continues as well.

If the issue persists after trying the above steps, I'd like for you to boot into safe mode and test for the issue there. Take a look at the following resource for more information on this process:

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support
If the issue persists in safe mode, it may be a good idea to test for this behavior in another user account on your Mac. This will help you to isolate the issue. Take a look at this website for more information:
How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support
Have a great day!

Safe boot makes a little difference but the image is still messed up.

I have put 2 documents in this folder. One has a problem. The other is the same document that I printed from a 3rd party pdf editor that cleans up the document. I can read the problem document with several apps on several devices without seeing the issues. Before Sierra I could do the same on my laptop and iMac. I have tested this on 2 machines - Laptop and iMac.

This is a Sierra Preview issue as best as I can tell.

Opening that 160 KB Dropbox file in Safari renders a very nice picture of a gas powered electric generator.

Using Dropbox's "Download" feature, and then opening it in Preview, shows the black boxes you're describing.

Exporting either image from Sierra as a PDF results in an 8 KB file, which Preview opens as a blank page.

Either way, that's just not right.

I would be inclined to report it as a bug: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
