- Check the read-write permissions for the project folder you are working in, and where Logic sits in. Do you have full access?
- Detach external Audio/MIDI interfaces, reboot, and start Logic without external inputs/connections
Does the same issue occur for Audio tracks settings too?

Sounds like you have the Replace button in the Control Bar enabled.
In the LCD display choose the Custom layout, and disable the Replace button

I will check all of these things now.
The setting is only there for midi - weirdly. Audio is fine.
