Q: Trouble downloading Sierra to Macbook Air

I'm having difficulty downloading Sierra on my 2009 MacBook Air; have been tardy downloading updates over the past few years, however it says I need OSX 10.7.5 which I have. Basically download doesn't even seem to start - just stops at 'waiting' - thanks in advance for any suggestions!

For macOS Sierra requirements are here: How to get macOS Sierra - Apple Support
It says:
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)

There is option for you to upgrade to El Capitan: Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support
