Q: How do I disable voice control in iOS 10?

Hi. I've got an iPhone 6s Plus and just downloaded iOS 10. Now, when I accidentally hold the Home button too long, it makes a loud pinging sound and brings up Voice Control. I don't want this; I work in a cubicle and don't want to make this much noise, nor do I ever use Voice Control.

I went into Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > ensured Voice Dial was off. If this isn't possible in iOS 10, how do I downgrade to iOS 9.x? Thanks.

use a long press on the home button to activate voice control (trust me, you'll only do it one time), then say turn off voice control. Done.

    >_< thanks akaSandy. Result: "Playing all songs by Washed Out." (never heard of 'em, but music began and no audio app was open; had to shutoff my iPhone to get it to stop. iTunes marketing!) Good one—not helpful, but funny!

This is the only work around that kinda works,  at least the stupid phone dons't beeb beeb like a time bomb in a quiet office.  Jeeez.

Please allow users to disable this feature in the next "bug fix" update, please thank you Mr. Cook.

My thoughts precisely, arc_tangent.  It reflects a corporate "attitude" on Apple's behalf, and I don't like it.

I there a "better" way to complain than just griping here?  I mean is there an Apple customer support e-mail address...or Tim Cook's e-mail address?

Since I have upgraded to IOS 10 I have the same problem with the voice control and I know a lot of colleagues and friends having the same problem. They all complain as they work in open space environments and mobile phones should be switched to silent mode.

Nothing wrong with your phone hardware ! it is a general issue and it is f.... annoying !

Doesn't work for me - my iPhone 6s just made a Facetime call in response to a very clear and slow "Turn Off Voice Control"

I think the person who made that suggestion was playing a prank. The only workaround to this issue is to enable Siri, which at least won't ping loudly.

As someone who has serious tremors, I often hit a button twice accidentally. Hopefully, the good people at Apple will hear our call to revert the Voice Control defaults to pre-iOS 10.

I think I've found something that might help.

Go to Settings, General, Accessibility, Home button.  Set the double-click speed to Slower or Slowest.  That should make the home button less sensitive to the long press that triggers Voice Control, so it should happen less often.

(I hope the menu options are correct, I'm translating as my phone is not in English.)

This might have a side-effect of making it take longer before a normal press on the Home button is recognised.  I've tried to test it but I think it's psychological.

Doing the above, combined with the tip to make Voice Control beep more quietly, makes this problem less severe for me.

Hope that is of benefit to someone out there!

Richard, thank you for the advise. It solved my problem. Now when I open the phone I press the home button a bit longer than before ios 10 and see the lock-symbol turn into unlocked. Then I release the home button and are ready to rock!

But again, when Apple makes this feature optional then I will be 100% happy with it.

As a sidetrack to the topic I today saw why my car radio makes a dummy call which cannot be cut off on the radio equipment.

The voice control/Siri voice was activated and that silenced my radio and did not allow calling with it. This probably can happen when you have tye phone in your pocket.

So anyone looking for a problem with handsfree car connection over bluetooth might find this to be a reason for it not to work.

Making a (dummy) call on the iphone released the car radio from the phone and all is ok.
