Q: iPhone 7 "no service"

Does anyone have a real fix for the iPhone 7 with the "no service" problem? When I'm driving the phone keeps going into "no service" and the only thing I found to fix it is to turn the phone off and on again.  Apple said to get a new sim card from Verizon, When I googled this problem others are also having this problem so I'm thinking its not the sim card.  I have had iPhones from the 4 up to the iPhone 7 and drive the same roads to work and this is the first time I'm getting this problem.

    I had my phone for 8 days and then all of a sudden my phone had "No Service" where other people with iphones and AT&T had decent service. I would sometimes get spotty service but mostly none at all. I couldn't even connect with the micro cell in my house. I called AT&T and after jumping through hoops they had me go by an AT&T store to replace the sim. That worked temporarily. Of course on my way home I went back to "No Service". I called AT&T and they said the new sim has to make it's way through the network which is why i couldn't connect to my micro cell immediately. On the call I finally managed to get connected to my Micro Cell with full bars. Stayed that way all evening until I woke up this morning and I'm back to "No Service". I guess I'm back to square one.

    Same problem. It only happens when I use the Waze app. The temporary fix seems to be disable voice on LTE. I hope Apple recognizes this is an issue and sends out an update soon.

    I unfortunately always get to the "No Service" state without Waze   I wish I knew the direct cause. It appears there are multiple causes for the "No Service" state. I have tried disabling LTE Data And Voice to just have LTE Data per AT&T's tech supports instructions. I've tried reinserting the SIM card/new SIM card and resetting the Network settings. All have had either no effect or temporarily fixed the problem, however I think it was more of a coincidence that the problem was temporarily fixed. I have an appointment at the Apple Store on Saturday so we will see what happens.

    I am now 48 hours with my 3rd iPhone 7 AT&T 256GB and it has been working great!  LTE voice and data both on.  the first two I had were hopelessly locked in No Service mode except in the absolutely strongest of signal areas and then only brief 2 min. bursts of connection that never really worked.

     

    I did one other thing with this last phone that I have not done with the first two.  I did not let it update to iOS 10.0.2!  I kept it on 10.0 as it came out of the box.  I also recall that my first two phones were 10.0 and did seem to work for a few hours, or one lasted 24 hr, but then stopped getting service and I believe that was at the same time I updated both of them to iOS 10.0.2.

     

    So, either I finally got a phone with out some hardware problem, after changing out 3 times, or it is the 10.0.2 system that is killing the service.  I seem to recall that either 10.0.1 or 10.0.2 was released primarily to fix a fatal flaw that kept T-Moble phones from connecting on LTE, and I wonder now if that inadvertently caused issues with other services like AT&T or Verizon?

     

    At this point I don't want to risk updating the system and finding out it was not hardware.  I think I can wait now for 10.0.3 and a promise that it fixes the dreaded No Service.

     

    Apple Engineers, Any thoughts on this?

    I too am getting a replacement for my iPhone 7 AT&T 256GB.  My 7 worked fine for a couple days then erratically or unstable connection until finally staying in 'no service' for 10+ hours at a time.  My experience in dealing with AT&T was about as poor as one would expect, quickly pushing you out the door and to Apple.  Apple of course asked me to go through all the recommended tricks found online to no avail, but I understand they needed to go through the process I guess.  I was told I would have my replacement within 1-2 days.  4 days later no update, call or email, just statement that it's based on store availability...  I have to say, this is been a very poor customer experience for an upgrade to latest model.  Previous experiences from 4s and up have been really good.

    I'm really hoping I do not have to go through this 3 times as you have.  My return window to AT&T will have expired by the time i get the replacement device.  Will Apple continue to replace it should the next one fail?  It's hard to imagine they would leave me holding the bag on a device that clearly has either a hardware or software flaw.  Seriously considering going back to the 6s.

    Apple replaced my Verizon iPhone 7 256gb on Tuesday and i've already seen the behavior occur on the new phone.  Is this only being seen on the 256 devices?

    I have a 128GB version of the iPhone 7 Plus and have seen the same problem. I went to the apple store on saturday to show them the problem explaining that i executed all the recommended fixes without any success. They agreed that it seemed like a problem and perhaps it was a software issue. They had me upgrade to the iOS 10.1 beta however that didn't fix the problem. They were very nice and accommodating and agreed to replace my phone. I unfortunately had to go to another store since they were sold out but with my new phone (still running the original factory installed iOS 10, NOT 10.0.2) I haven't seen any problems since. They said I should probably still upgrade my iOS to the latest version however I'm a little gun shy as can be expected since I was 6 days without service until I was able to get an apple appointment. The tech at the apple store did say that he has seen this problem with several iPhone 7s. He said with the iOS 10.0.2 it was supposed to fix a TMobile service issue and perhaps it broke the service in some phones for AT&T and Verizon. He said with verizon customers they are screwed until a new version of the iOS comes out. I thankfully have AT&T. Eventually I will update my iOS but not until I see that there is a bug fix for the AT&T service problem.

    Has anyone with an active "No Service" problem on  AT&T tried this fix to see if it actually works? I see online that this fix is supposed to fix iPhone 7's that use CDMA (ie Verizon and Sprint). How about people who were seeing problems on their AT&T iPhone 7?

      Since there is no way to downgrade back to a working version of the iOS i'm a little hesitant to update to the latest 10.0.3 until someone who has an active "No Service" problem on AT&T says it fixed their problem. Thanks to the community for their response. I'm sure others will also appreciate the reassurance that the 10.0.3 will not cause their replaced iPhone to stop working again.

    I was supposed to receive my replacement device last Wednesday.  A week later I am still waiting for my replacement device.  I did receive an email notice last Friday that my device had arrived and after planing and making the 45 minute drive to the store on Sunday I was told it was in error.  This is entirely speculation on my part but maybe they are holding replacement devices to see if .03 update fixes the problem?  Very dishonest if so as I would completely understand if that action were transparent vs. essentially stalling me.

    I updated my iPhone 7 256GB AT&T last night as I suspect when I actually do receive a call, they will first ask if I've installed the latest update.  Disappointingly, it did not fix the problem for me at all.  It did not restore service nor increase the duration and or frequency in which it spontaneously comes back for very short periods of time.  I still have a phone that works at best 10-30 minutes a day and no correspondence from Apple on status of my 'repair'. 

    While I certainly appreciate the kindness and attention the Genius staff provides with support, the process as a whole is rendering the so far stellar human element meaningless.  I was assured my replacement may arrive with store restock today and anticipate getting the call. 

    Also noticing even when service comes back for a couple minutes and I get the messages dump from the backlog, it still does not work correctly.  Messages at times will simply cannot not be sent and frequently I get 'unknown' messages that state 'message not found'.  I am also continually prompted to enter my passcode to enable touchID despite this already being enabled and the phone was not restarted or otherwise in a state that would require it.  I'm not an excitable person by nature but this experience has been frustrating to say the least.

    Ouch!! First of all I want to thank you for your quick reply to my request for information after testing out the 10.0.3 on the iPhone 7 with AT&T. I really hope you get a new device soon. After the apple store replaced my phone i still haven't updated the iOS for fear of losing service again. I guess we will see what happens with 10.0.4. Maybe that one will fix the AT&T problem.

    I updated to the new iOS update 10.0.3 which has (mostly) fixed the problem on my Verizon iPhone 7. By mostly, I mean that I still service drop to 1 bar/circle in places I used to get 2 or 3 bars. But have not gotten the "no service" sign yet since the update.

    Apple fixed it!

    I have a Verizon iPhone 7 and was having periodic no service with Waze running and LTE Voice turned on.Workaround was to  turn off LTE Voice, which fixed No Service.

     

    Now with 10.0.3 and LTE Voice turned on, I don't get No Service. It just works (as it supposed to).

     

    Good job Apple (at least for my kind of problem)!
