Learned on another thread that iTunes saves older .itl files in a folder ../iTunes/Previous iTunes Libraries/ and I just copied the latest saved file back to the ../iTunes/ folder and started version 6 and everything is ok now.

Some folks on iLounge forums are having the same problem. One person updated DirectX and it fixed it.

I updated DirectX and my video drivers and the problem still exists. Boo urns!

Same problem here - but the worst part about it is that iTunes totally CRASHES on me when I browse the movies or music video section.

Someone needs to do something about this.

    jazzyfan:

I'd like to get a crash log file from you.

Go to Start menu -> Run... In the dialog that appears, type in "cmd" (without the quotes). Hit OK. In the window that comes up (usually black background, white text) type in "drwtsn32 -i". Hit return.

Find the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson". (If it's not there, look in "Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson") You might need to turn on "show hidden files" to find either of these folders. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.)

There should be 2 files in there with today's time and date, a .log file and a .dmp file. Send both of these files to me. Please include a link to this thread in your email.

I am having the same problem you describe. When I first tried the album browser, several of my albums had messed up cover art. Later, the same thing happened to the scroll bar under the albums. Anyone have any solutions?

I'm having the same problem on a Mac Mini... very frustrating after looking forward to using this new cover browser.

I forgot to mention that I do have the latest version of QuickTime too, the one that was released today...

    Same problem here.

Installed first thing at work today. XP Pro SP2. Experienced the same issue. I thought, "Hey, I have a lot of Microsoft beta software hanging around either installed or uninstalled (hey the beta unstallers don’t exactly work like they’re supposed to and leave bits of bad stuff around) which routinely causes problems with newer software.” I installed on my t42 thinkpad (XP Pro SP2) to test this theory. Everything works fine. My inkling, so I thought, was confirmed.

Fast forward to the end of the day. When I get home from work, I install on my media center 2005 pc that has all of my media, including many television shows purchased from the iTunes music store, excited to see if the movie quality is as good or surpasses the DVD copies I keep on my PC. Same problem. Can not browse by album cover so the television shows and movies and television section in iTunes crashes when I try to access it (the only software I’ve installed outside of MCE 2K5 is iTunes, a couple of software packages to back up my DVDs to my hard Drive so they’re easily accessible, and Office 2003 pro). Windows is up to date and I verified I am using the most recent drivers for all components. Why does this not work.

Apple: Please pay attention. Consumer here about ready to throw $50+ at your store to purchase several movies just to test out the quality and user experience of them AND I CAN NOT BECAUSE YOUR SOFTWARE KEEPS CRASHING ON ME. Yes I could download everything on my laptop and transfer the ~10 gigs these downloads would generate to the place I would use them, but why should I jump through hoops to get these files onto the PC hooked up to my television.

Same problem here...I have Windows XP SP2 and all the latest updates. I upgraded to iTunes7 today, and requested an album art update. The update appeared to be successfull as I have a lot more artwork for my music now, although not all albums were found. All of my music is either in AAC or MP3 format. However, when I try and use the 'cover flow' facility/view I get the message: "iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer" in the pane where the cover flow should be. Could you tell me what is wrong? I've tried updating the artwork several times now, I've also restarted iTunes and Windows several times...but with no luck!

I've not tried getting the latest version of QuickTime or DirectX yet...I will try that now. One note of mention, as another post indicated about beta products. I do have Internet Explorer 7 (beta) on my machine...I wonder if this in any way could be a problem? Does anyone else have this installed on their machine and having a problem with the 'cover flow' facility/view?

    Same ablum cover problem here.

Windows XP Pro with Matrox G550 graphics card and dual screen.

The middle button works, it's just the large animated version. The CPU works overtime in the mode too.

I've noticed that a few of the other cards mentioned in this post are dual screen cabable cards too. Coincidence?

Folks with non-dual screen capable cards are having problems as well, so I don't know if I'd chalk it up to that.

I don't think my card is capable. It's an SiS integrated chip.

Do folks from Apple peruse these forums, or do we need to make a formal complaint to let them know the issue?

Same problem here with SiS760GX integrated graphics. Driver update doesn't fix the problem. iTunes hangs when switching to cover flow and when switching to the music video section in the store.

Occasionally quits unexpectedly, too. What a mess!

(I installed iTunes 7 for a friend of mine on her PC.)
