MacBook Pro 15" short battery life

Just received my new MacBook Pro 2016 15", best configuration available. Battery charge though is disappointing. At full charge and with dimmed screen it shows only 2.5-3 hours of battery remaining. Is this a calibration issue? I am only at the 4th cycle, so it might take a while to adjust or shall I raise a ticket right away?

Yes. My 15" MacBook Pro arrived yesterday. I charged it fully after transferring all my files from my old laptop. The battery lasted about 2-3 hours with normal use. I don't have any games. None of the apps are significantly draining the battery when I open Activity Monitor.

OK, it seems that there is an issue with new laptops battery life. Would be great to hear what Apple has to say about it. This laptop battery should last 10 hours !! It was even claimed that some decisions were made in sake of having such good battery life, e.g. 16GB RAM limit instead of 32GB.

I figured out a temporary fix to this problem. It seems (at least on my 15") that there is a process running called secd that is eating up 85% or more of my cpu, which was causing major battery drain, and also caused my laptop to get pretty warm.

I did research and found out that this is related to the keychain under iCloud. What I did to fix this, was I unchecked keychain, and restarted my computer. Once i did this the secd process was no longer eating at my battery, and my battery life (estimated) was at 7-8 hours. I am assuming that once apple fixes this bug, we can reenable the keychain.

Hope this helps!

I am having the same battery life problem on my 15" MacBook Pro with touch bar. Although I see an SECD app in my activity monitor, it does not seem to be using a lot of CPU or Energy in Activity Monitor.

I did an chat session with Apple Support and they asked me to create a new user ID and use that for an hour to see if battery drain was any different. It has been a half hour and so far it does not seem to me any different. My battery dropped from 84% to 67% in that time. That would be a rate of 34% per hour or about 3 hours of battery life.

I have received mine yesterday and worked through all the data transfers today. I got about 6 hours out of it and after I fully charged it the indicator says about 5 hours as well. I believe when multitasking and not under heavy load 5-6 hrs is what is to be expected. 10hrs seems way overstated (unless you dim the screen completely and just do safari).
