For some reason, my vidoe hardware acceleration was
not set to Full. Once I set it to full, I can
    display album cover now.

How exactly to you set your hardware accelleration?

This 7.0 beta software has been painful.

I get the can't display covers message when in Library and choose the right hand view icon.

If I go to ITMS (ITS now ?) and select Movies, yes the one and only reason I got suckered into doing the 7.0 update, I get the can't display album covers at the top of the page and get a fatal error approximately 5 seconds after it loads.

If I am in my library view and choose the middle icon for views I do have all the album art displayed in middle size icons down the left side.

Note the 4 hours it took it to download the album art while pinning the CPU 90% of the time on a P4 3.0G machine making everything else unusable is not acceptable Steve, at least if they'd give us a heads up I could do this overnight, really poor quality software here.

I've looked at all display settings and nothing is less than maxed out. I am running multiple displays, 3 to be exact. 2 1600 x1200 and one 1920 x 1200.

So, Windows XP Pro, 2 video cards, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 & RADEON X300 SE.

I'm stumped, thankfully the only place I get the fatal errors is asking ITMS for Movies. My 4th gen iPod won't play 'em anyway Someone tell Steve I'm headed to Amazon Unboxed to see how miserable that user experience is cause it can't be worse than this ??

Oh and the UI changes in 7 when it isn't crashing are slick.

This is purely a memory resource issue. It will get fixed. The issue for those of us with lower speed machines and lower memory is that the software completely crashes for this reason when you switch to view the TV or Movie directory in the Store. In effect, I cannot view those two areas - which means I cannot buy anything - which means that Apple isn't making money. They're not going to fix something that won't benefit them - money is a good motivator to see a quick fix coming.

This sounds logical but what makes you sure this is a memory resource problem?

    Having asked how you know...

I should note that on my notebook which has 128MB of video memory and 2GB of RAM, iTunes runs very well. My desktop VAIO that is not working only has 32MB of Video and 1GB of RAM< That would support your assertion.

Interestingly the icons on the desktop shortcuts for itunes and quicktime are messed up on both PC's. Don't know what that means other than the installation program is somehow messed up. It appears Apple has rushed this version to market without sufficient QA testing. A bit shocking given the number of users they have.

An update, no changes to my system but the "browser" worked fine for me last night. I opened up iTunes about the same time as I had updated to v7 the day before. Saw the new Movies link in the ITS and thought I'd check it out. Link opened fine and cover browser worked no problem. Jumped back to my library in iTunes, same story cover browser working with no problem. This morning.... iTunes crashes if I try to go to Movies or TV Show in the ITS and the cover browser doesn't work in my library. Did a programmer leave some code in the build that only allows the browser to work at certain times (evenings west coast for me) ?????

As pointed out in one of the other posts, users not being able to browse album covers in their libraries is an annoyance / disappointment. On the other hand users not being able to navigate to the new Movies page or the TV Show page of ITS hits Apple where they live (i.e. in the pocketbook). I would expect this problem to either be resolved quickly or the cover browser feature to be removed for the Movies and TV Shows pages.

you don't have to give out your credit card info to have an itunes store account - in fact, I used the same apple ID that I am using to post this message

Amazon forced Apple to rush to market with what we probably assume was a later beta release of iTunes. Apple made plenty of mistakes in the late 80's and early 90's ... and they're not going to lose market share in the MP3 arena - good for them. Watch for the clean up on this application .... they are losing money if they don't and money is the name of the game ... our happiness doesn't necessarily motivate unless it ties to money.

i'm having the same problem as all of you but my computer exceeds the requirements (2.2GhZ Celeron, 512MB RAM, 64MB VRAM) WinXP SP2, i've updated DirectX, my video card drivers and everything and i've tried most of the solutions in this thread...not only does Coverflow STILL not work for me (which i don't have a big problem with), when i go to the movie or TV Show store, it gives me the usual message (iTunes can not display cover art) and it locks up my computer to the point where ControlAltDelete doesn't work and i have to reboot my computer by pushing the power button, i'm a pretty big Apple fan, but if this is how Apple's becoming (putting out crappy software with tons of bugs that wasn't fully tested) i am considering leaving the Apple fanbase. Oh and no big surprise, Coverflow worked fine on my 17" MacBook Pro.

In case nobody shared this yet, exit iTunes then:

    1. Start - Settings - Control Panels - Display
    2. Click Settings tab
    3. Select 32 Bit
    4. Click Advanced button. A dialog pops up.
    5. Click Troubleshoot tab
    6. There should be a slider for hardware acceleration. Select Full

Click OK buttons to close and save your changes.

Good luck. This worked for me.

my settings have been set this way...though i must say it's now amazing to me how many people are posting with iTunes 7 issues...so many to slow Apple's forums down to a crawl apparently...but that's for another discussion...

Thanks for the well written post and suggestion. No luck here. Acceleration is set at full.
