I noticed this problem for the first time today even though I updated to High Sierra a week or so ago. Came here looking for an answer. Updating Google Chrome worked for me, too.

In Chrome, go to the "Chrome" pulldown menu. Click "About Google Chrome" and you will update.

I'm 99% convinced that this is that 10.13.2 High Sierra update which is the culprit!

It's not High Sierra.

Try this…

1. Quit Chrome

2. In System Preferences > General set the default browser to Safari

3. Launch Chrome

4. When Chrome asks if you want to make it the default browser say yes.

Test.

I have the latest High Sierra and the latest Chrome. I can't update them because they are both current and, xurprise surprise, email links still don't work.

I think this is just Apple's stupid attempts to embarrass Google by making it look like Chrome doesn't work. They want you to use Safari.

This is such a Microsoft thing to do. Every time Google fixes the issue, Apple switches to the prior link structure and breaks it. This is what happens when a company gets so big that they completely loose empathy for the users. Younger and younger coders who lack the life experience to feel other's perspectives or to overcome their own self-satisfied pride.

Shame on all of you.

Agreed, Paul! This is how Apple attempts to get you to switch back to Safari. As soon as Chrome makes the links work, Apple switches the structure to break them. It's like the children are fighting in the back seat while the grownups are just trying to get somewhere.

In a few days, it won't again. Apple wants you to use Safari, so they deliberately break the simple function of email links to "gently" persuade you to use Safari.

I think they are just being self-serving fools. I am a developer and need to use both Chrome and Safari. I need links to open in Chrome but I don't get to have that luxury because, even though I've loyally overpaid to be an Apple customer, it's not up to me. I need to respect the random preferences of the children in charge at Apple and simply stay away from Google.

The last thing this world needs is anything reasonable or useful.
