I have a new Mac Pro and it has a optical-digital sound out port. Very nice. I have a optical digital cable connected from the Mac Pro to my stero system. But I found that when I have that plugged in and selected in the Sound preferences, all my controls are gone. In the preference pane, once digital is selected, it says: The selected device has no output controls. So the only way I can adjust the volumn is to go to the stereo system I have it plugged into (which is in another room). Pretty inconvenient. Or, I have to open system preferences, go to Sound, change the settings. Also pretty inconvenient. Does anyone know How come? But more importantly, if there's no way to gain control of the sound output from the computer, then is there a way to get the Sound Pref window available on desktop so I don't have to burrow all the way into sys prefs. nÔÔdle--hëad
