Jan 22, 2007 5:34 PM in response to Kenny8992002by Allan Eckert,Hi Kenny8992002;
Your Mac Pro is based on Intel processors. Classic is not supporteded on Intel processor Macs by Apple.
The only possibility is to use something called SheepShaver that can emulate OS 9 for some application.

Jan 22, 2007 10:12 PM in response to Kenny8992002by Steven Davidson,Second vote for SheepShaver (http://sheepshaver.cebix.net/). It's free, and it works pretty well. You'll need your OS9 installation disks.
If that doesn't work, I've got a beige G3 you can have... <g> -

Jan 22, 2007 10:25 PM in response to Steven Davidsonby Steven Davidson,Drat, wrong link.
Check here: http://gwenole.beauchesne.info/en/projects/sheepshaver#downloads
There's also a writeup on OS X Hints: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060509180914879&lsrc=osxh
I haven't seen the extension problem that he mentions in the article: YMMV. It may have been fixed in a more recent release (the article is from May of last year)

SheepShaver error:
invalid ROM file size.SheepShaver requires a 4MB PCI PowerMac ROM
so what should i do now?? -
Jan 24, 2007 6:23 PM in response to Kenny8992002by Steven Davidson,Did you download the mac OS ROM? I think I got it from the apple site. It should be about 1.9 MB in size (mine is 1,945,746 bytes). I used my old OS9 install disk.
Did you download the ROM from the Apple site? If so, you need to use tomeviewer to extract the actual ROM file.
I just confirmed that my install still works with the latest version of SheepShaver. Try to download the ROM again, download and install tomeviewer. Run it and select the file that you downloaded from the Apple site, extracting the rom file. Follow the examples on the uneasysilence page from there - you should see a smiling mac when you click the start button. -

On eBay you can pick up a first Gen imac with an airport card and OS 9 for less than $50 -
Jan 26, 2007 3:48 PM in response to Michael Flynnby Steven Davidson,SheepShaver works fine for my (limited) OS 9 needs; I know of several people who use it in the same capacity. Apps run faster on SheepShaver on my Mac Pro than on my old Beige G3, YMMV.
Michael's got a good point, though - if you don't have much luck with SheepShaver, or the software that you need to run is too much for emulation, a legacy mac may be a good option, and a cheap one to boot. -
Jan 26, 2007 6:22 PM in response to A.J. Jonesby TigerSSMac,eBay a Cube, it'll run OS9 and is virtually silent. -
