Today my Apple TV started having playback issues, where the video would be "jerky" and behind the audio track. Occasionally, playback would briefly return to normal, but then go back to being jerky and out of sync with the audio.

The video that I'm having problems with is Episode 11 of Season 1 of Friday Night Lights, purchased from iTunes, but other iTunes TV shows I'm playing back are having the same problem.

This is the first time I've had this problem, and have until now been having no playback issues whatsoever. I made no changes to settings or connections. Has anyone else experienced this?

Is this with streaming (and if so, over what type of network) or is it with sync'd content?

It's with synced content (I let it sync the night before and still had free space), so streaming shouldn't have been an issue, I don't think.

    Hi Derek,

Check the bitrate that you encoded the movie. I have found that for some material, going beyond 2500 kbps causes stuttering, pauses and audio getting out of sync with the video.

    Cheers!

he states that the problems he is experiencing are from iTunes downloads.

How do you have the atv connected to your tv? what resolution option did you select?

I had some problems video/audio sync with video I have downloaded (e.g., the promotional material at the very end of Blood Ties's first episode), but I found the material was just as much out of sync when I played it on iTunes on my PowerMac as it was on Apple TV. In other words, it was the encoding and not the limitations of Apple TV.

Have you tried playing the same content on your Mac? Is the playback similar or different?

I called Apple about this same problem...video stops while audio continues, on movies dowloaded from ITS...they said to unplug and reset the Apple TV. This worked and didn't delete synced content.
