I had mine replaced, never even supplied any serial number. My 1st one was replaced via serial number, that was a recall.
Mine just went to sleep at odd times, 40% , 30 % and when resuming from sleep with ac adapter, it would show 0%
So let them have a look and test it....
The 1.2 update should improve your battery life, and if you have funny effects you should have it checked and replaced. I now have great battery life with a proper battery and update 1.2.MacbookPro 2.0GHz 2GB 100GB 5200rpm, Mac OS X (10.4.9), Week 11 and loving it!!

First they said I should just fill in details under 2006 battery exchange program, as my battery qualified for that, but when I tried to do that, MBP wasn't eligible for the battery replacement, even that the battery was.
So, another quick call to them explaining the situation, and battery is in the post - should be here some time next week.MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.8), CoreDuo 2.16GHz, 2GB RAM, 100GB HDD + iPod 80GB

Battery arrived today by courier, with a prepaid label to ship defective one back - all free of charge.
A lot of people complain of Apple Customer Service, but they do good job sometimes
