Some people on EverythingIphone seem to have gone to the AT&T store for a new sim card and then it worked fine for them.

    Nearing hour 18 here.

I called AT&T and had some slightly different news. The activation process had created TWO different accounts in TWO different markets surrounding where I live. The one that had all my correct info and assigned a new phone number was in Mobile, Alabama. I live in Meridian, Mississippi, and in now way are they the same area, or area code. How did this happen?

Once more, I called AT&T to correct THAT problem, and there's nothing they can do. The girl - Faith, very friendly and knowledgeable, but not helpful - said all call centers were concentrating on activation. The only option she gave me was to stick with my phone number as is, wait for the phone to activate (pshh! cause it's that easy, 18 hours later...), which as we all know is the first and foremost biggest problem.

Anyone else get a number assigned in the wrong area?

18 hours and still waiting. existing cingular customer. Worst OOB EVER.

best part: in the activation wizard, it asks for my .Mac or AppleID. I have an old .Mac account that is expired, but i still use it to buy itunes music etc. I entered that ID. When I arrived at the 'requires additional time' screen, it said it would send email to that @mac.com address. since i no longer have the .mac service, i can't receive mail at that address. Shouldn't apple have known that? To make matters worse, two hours on the phone with activation service, then apple, then activation service, then apple, and support has determined that if there is a problem activating, an email will be sent to this address that can not be accessed. So, i'm screwed. And they will do nothing about it. I'm packin this up and heading back to the store. Worst OOB experience EVER.

I had an existing At&T business account, but found out this wouldn't activate the hard way.

Being fed up I decided to go for a brand new connection/number with AT&T after reading reviews that this would be faster activation. Well its been 15 hours and still nothing! 10 mins ago I got an email, saying my order number is xxxx and to wait for activation email!

Dont know what the **** is going on!

finally after 15 hours, i got this message

"We are currently processing your order. Your order number is ****
You will receive an additional e-mail when your order is complete that will provide further instructions to activate your iPhone."

i paid my bill just 15 minutes earlier, even though it was not due yet, i do not know if that mattered.

has anyone been able to sync prior to activation?

I just got the exact same email about 10 minutes ago, and I haven't even been asked to pay a bill (I'm a new customer). To be certain, that email may not really mean anything - it may have been a system-wide automated email just to keep us from calling and yelling at them.

Personally, I think we are due a pretty big rebate from AT&T after this fiasco...

Started activation 7:45 PM PDT last nite. Porting non-business number from T-Mobile. After 16 hrs, I called the AT&T number, but the rep said that she couldn't access my account b/c someone else was currently editing it, adding porting information.

Just now received my activation email message (16.5 hrs) from the iTunes Store:

    Subject: Mobile Number Transfer Complete

Congratulations, AT&T is activating your iPhone.

Your iPhone will notify you when it is active and can make calls. The transfer of your existing phone number is in progress. An email to xxxxxx and an SMS to your iPhone will be sent when the transfer is complete.

To set up and sync this iPhone, click Continue.

After clicking Continue, I was able to go ahead and start syncing data.

Good luck to all out there who are still waiting!!

Most of us waited hours in line and spent so much on this iphone; but we can't get AT&T to speed up the activation process? This is so typical of AT&T; but I never expected Apple to allow this. Where is Steve Jobs when you need him? I sure hope he's working out a deal with AT&T to compensate those impacted by this.

I've called AT&T 5x and the agents are helpless. This is truely a sad expeience for those who are switching over to AT&T. It's Saturday at 3:49PM, I bet non of the executives at AT&T nor Apple are on duty today. It would be nice to see them send a national message indicating how hard and quickly their working to resolve this issue.

18 hours and still no activation. To make matters worse, the phone will not even allow you to use any of it's feature until activation is completed.

i've been waiting about 20 hours. miracle upon miracles i got thru to the AT&T number right away, only to be told it will take 24-48 hours. i am moving my number from verizon but did not cancel with them. Ms. AT&T told me to cancel Verizon, but i am scared i will have NO phone for days. do i really need to cancel verizon so my phone # will port?

Been following the post and just recieved my first message from ATT:

"We are currently processing your order. Your order number is ****
You will receive an additional e-mail when your order is complete that will provide further instructions to activate your iPhone."

I know this (above message) has already been discussed, but at least I received some sort of "news."

My wife's iPhone activated without a hitch last night. This may be a long tedious process, but from what I've seen with our 2nd iPhone... it's worth the wait.

    Good luck all.
