I have had a problem with my iPhone Safari browser suddenly "signing off" and reverting back to the icon screen while I am actively browsing. Has anyone else had this problem? This occurs whether or not I'm on EDGE or WIFI.

I have had this happen as well, usually when trying out some new iphone specific web app.

I had the problem until I reset the phone - press the Home button and the button on the top of the phone for a few seconds until the Apple logo shows up. No problem since then.

I have had the same issues even completely locking my phone. The phone has been rather buggy for me. And no flash support really lame.

This also did the trick for me. My Safari browser was crashing when I did some of the finger gestures to expand the screen. Also saw this problem while in Google Maps. A reset of the iPhone as you described cleared the problem for me.

I had this happen when I tried to resize the screen before the completed page was downloaded as far as I can tell.

My iPhone does this constantly also. I can also make it crash by playing music and flicking through cover art very quickly. I am doing the soft reset and seeing if this helps with it.

My iphone did the same as well I performed a soft rest (holding the home and hold button for 5 seconds) and it still does the same thing. My brother has an iphone and his does not have this issue. Does anyone know if this issue has been communicated to Apple to release a firmware fix?

This happens to me as well - when I am listening to music, the music will shut off and iPhone will return to home screen. It completely crashes. PLEASE FIX THIS Apple!

My iphone does the same thing (safari, maps, and itunes close unexpectedly while in use, and the menu screen appears). A hard reset didn't help. New ideas??

I too have had the same problems described, especially the crashes while using Coverflow. (and every other problem here). Soft and hard resets did nothing. I just finished restoring the phone completely... the last step one can do... I'll see if that helps.

The restore helped... for a while. Over time the crashes return.

A search here and on Google shows these issues with the iPod (and Safari) crashing are very, very common. It is almost as if there is a memory leak or corrupt cache issue, which explains why rebooting helps clear up the issue.

When I first got the phone, I was powering down daily too, which may have helped mitigate the issue a bit.

My suggestion to all in the meantime is to power down your phone daily, just to clean things out on the startup. I have contacted Apple about the issue along with the presumably thousands of other people, so I am confident it will be fixed soon.
