Hello everyone, I'm new to aperture and I am curious to find out if the following is possible.
I would prefer to keep my aperture library a referenced library. I know that I can keyword previews of these files within aperture and this data is used mostly as a search tool. I'm wondering is there any way that this metadata can be applied to the original files (whilst they are online of course) without importing the originals into aperture?

No, this is not possible because Aperture never alters the original files.

It's not semantics at all. From a file access point of view, there is no difference between writing pixel changes to a file or writing metadata changes to a file...

so what would happen if the photos were lost and needed to be restored from backup...would all the changes made in Aperture be lost (i.e keywords)?
